    Tool

Last we heard regarding a new Tool album, the guys were hoping to hit the studio in July to start tinkering around with some new ideas. The band’s last LP, “10,000 Days,” dropped in 2006, so considering Tool are one of the most popular underground rock acts of their generation, they’re long overdue for a new record.

Now, Tool drummer Danny Carey has given an update of sorts that, yes, he and the guys of Tool are currently working on new music. While frontman Maynard James Keenan has yet to step in with his vocals, Carey says the rest of the Tool gang and working hard to lay down the basis of sounds that will make up the next Tool record. Fans of the band are no doubt stoked to hear that tidbit.

Carey made the announcement towards the end of his appearance on the Children of Saturn radio show last week. “The Tool thing is happening,” Carey said. “Me, Adam and Justin are banging away, trying to get enough [music] to get Maynard in there, but there is no wine before it’s time.”

In a previous interview with Vic Firth during the band’s short U.S. tour earlier this year, Carey explained that the writing process between band members is pretty organic. “We just all get in there and grind it out,” he said. “Sometimes, if I come up with a beat, the guys will write a riff to that. Like, Justin [Chancellor, bass player] has really been prolific on this record. He’s been coming in with tons of riffs. I usually try to find something to compliment it rather than play what he’s playing, that’s for sure, because we’re allowed to do that in our band, since there are only three pieces, really. So, it gives you a lot more space…”

No word yet on just when the new Tool album will arrive, but fans should have peace of mind knowing it’s on the band’s to-do list. Meanwhile, check out some drumming tips from Carey here.
Ok, this is about a month old but I love Tool. Maynard needs to get his ass in the studio. Don't get me wrong I love APC and Puscifer but it doesn't compare to the magic of Tool.

How many Tool fans does this site have? I'm guessing it's a small number.

I love both bands, hard to choose but if I had to choose I'd say I prefer APC a little bit more. I look forward to whatever he puts out though. Anything he or Reznor put out I enjoy.

I've never been to a concert of any kind, but damn I'm jealous. I'm definitely saving up my money for something like that.

I love Tool, but they really need new material. I didn't think 10,000 Days was anywhere close to their best stuff, so the fact that they haven't released a great album since 2001 is sad.

10,000 days definitely wasn't my favorite but it had some some songs I really enjoy. I probably liked less than half the album.

I wish Maynard would go back to Tool where he belongs. Just like Serj should go back to SOAD where he belongs. The music I know and love is vanishing

i dont know why its a surprise they are taking so long to put our something new. 6 years is the longest stretch, but they consistently go about 5 years. plus with side projects, and they all have them, its not surprise its taking longer. And Maynard wont go and lay down lyrics until the music is ready. thats how they roll....but i did hear maynard say that he has some of the music and has been working on lyrics.

i agree that 10000 days was not their best work. it was good, and had some great songs. But it also had alot more bad songs then i care to remember. Plus the tour was pretty lame imo. The setlist was not the best and maynards voice didnt sound the same. Seems the older he gets the higher his voice gets and it didnt sound good imo.

I saw them in 2008 on the 10,000 Days tour. Oddly enough, I was on my way home from work and I saw my friend was driving down the street on his way to the concert and he had one extra ticket so I went to the show in business casual. LOL. Awesome show though. That was my first and only time seeing them. I had wanted to see them for probably 10 years (since high school).

Keep salivating, Tool fans, because we’ve got another update on the band’s upcoming fifth studio album. In a recent post on Tool’s official website, an in-depth statement has been released, revealing that the psychotropic four-piece are possibly “more than halfway” finished with the writing process.

Although frontman Maynard James Keenan has not begun to track his vocals for the 2013 album, the instrumental section of Tool remain hard at work. As a special holiday gift from the band to you, there is now an update that offers more than just a simple timeline.

The statement from the band’s Webmaster reads:

"Wanting to open some presents are you? Well, as I’ve already announced on this very website, TOOL will be performing at OZZFEST in JAPAN in MAY of 2013. If you can’t make that show, there MIGHT be another gift or two under the tree – things unnoticed amongst the torn wrapping paper, ribbons and empty boxes. My best guess is that these ‘presents’ won’t be opened until after the holidays – knowing just how important it is to take your evergreen decorations down by January 5th. Though not on the 2012 reindeer-propelled sleigh, there are a couple of other Tool projects on the horizon that I am privy to, but, unfortunately, can’t comment on any further at this time… as was requested by the band’s management (Bah humbug with a British accent!).

Something that might be encouraging to some Tool enthusiasts is that while riding with Danny to Chili John’s yesterday, I heard a lot of new Tool music (sans Maynard). This was the most new material that I’ve heard so far, although a few of the riffs and arrangements were familiar. So, what did I think? Dare I say that it sounded like… Tool (some of it reminiscent to earlier Tool stuff, with other parts pushing the envelope), and I assume that it will sound even more like Tool once the vocal melodies, etc. have been added. To answer your next question, I cannot say how far along in the writing process the band is. If I had to GUESS, I would say more than half way (and keep in mind that in the past, at least, the writing went faster once the first few [more complex] songs were finished)."

The mystery of Tool’s various projects still hangs over us, but whenever a secret concept has been nourished by the modern legends, fans end up with their minds blown in multiple directions. However, the statement above delivers great news as we remains on the edge of our seats. Stay tuned for more new on Tool’s fifth full-length as new info is revealed.
It's dated at December 18, 2012 so this should be right around the corner right?

After reading this I like Maynard a little bit less:

Keenan has become infamous for screwing with the media. The singer played an April Fools prank in 2005, having revealed that he “found Jesus” and claiming that Tool were abandoning what would later become ’10,000 Days.’ Keenan has also peddled a book that doesn’t exist and once reported that the members of Tool were in critical condition after a bus accident, so whether or not you believe Keenan is up to your own judgement.
But yeah Maynard basically said no album this year.

                            I think it's bullshit.
