    Metal Gear Solid Movie Announced

(insert jokes about the games already being a movie)

A Metal Gear movie has been announced at Konami's Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event. It will be made in association with Columbia Pictures.

Avi Arad (X-Men, Iron Man, The Amazing Spider-Man) will be producing and was on stage at the event.

"For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters - and video games are the comics of today," Arad said, as reported by attendee John Ricciardi on his Twitter feed.

There are no further details at this point, but Famitsu has some photos from the event.

2012 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Metal Gear series; the 'Tactical Espionage Action' series was first launched on MSX back in 1987.

In the comments section, someone posted a Kojima quote from earlier in the year...

Metal Gear Solid was developed specifically to become a game. ...If it were to be made into a movie it would have to be something completely new. I wouldn't use my current scripts. I think I'd have to get somebody to get a new script and somebody else to direct it as a movie.
The translated (google) part of the 25th Anniversary article linked above...

Hideo Kojima is talking about the film adaptation of this work, and was looking for a partner that can be achieved for many years. , "And the chosen partner is" no doubt if this person, " Spider-Man said producers who worked AVI ARAD Hollywood mogul and "series, a lot of movies, TV. He also came to Japan at the venue, the venue, "he also visited Japan Metal Gear stated ambition to film adaptation and a tribute to the "series and" not be a bad thing that Mr. Kojima Metal Gear is made, faithful I said, "promises to make a great movie with such spirit.

I'm going to be cautiously skeptical of this until I see some footage or at least the plot.
