I can't deal with network "dramas" anymore. I'm too spoiled. Network TV in general, actually, I only watch maybe a handful of network shows and they're all comedies. I dug "Awake" last season but they canceled that shit quick.
I'm going to watch it On Demand sometimes soon. I really want it to be good because it's a halfway decent concept but the reviews so far haven't been great.
"Revolution" was NBC's highest rated drama premiere (in 18-49 demo ratings) since 2007's "The Bionic Woman"...and we all know how "Bionic Woman" turned out.
That quote says it all. Going nowhere. Drop in the second half hour was nearly 20+%. Generally shows drop another 20-33% from premier until they level out.
Jericho didn't work
Fast Forward didn't work
The Event didn't work
Terra Nova didn't work
The TV viewing audience just doesn't like these types of shows anymore on their nightly networks.
LOL @ Parenthood the best drama on TV. Shows been DOA since it's first year, but like everything else on NBC except the Office, Voice, Grimm...they have to keep it because it has the biggest names and they have nothing else to put on.
Oh, and The Mob Doctor on FOX last night; who fucking green lit that POS (5.09 viewers, 1.5 demo) I am not watching anything new this year, the entire slate across the board for all networks is bunk.
Network TV needs to step their game up I think. All the major shows right now are on HBO or AMC, and use a larger budget but shorter season. I'm sure none of us would complain if HBO quality went on NBC or CBS and we got 26 episodes of shows that were awesome.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

They wouldn't be awesome with 26 episodes. Even with a large budget, story is still why the shows on AMC and HBO do so well. They keep out the fluff that all the networks have to use in order to hit their episode totals and it ends up hurting them in the end.

Yup, that is why network TV is mostly episode shows, where one story happens per episode, and then small little things happen over time, but that is just a small on going thing. Example being most cop shows, the CSI's, Law and Orders and such. They have their place on TV. I use to always watch CSI but just got out of it. I watch Criminal Minds for my "cop show" stuff and that is about it for my TV.
This summer I really started getting into the HBO and AMC stuff. So far I've watched:
Game of Thrones (3 times)
Entourage (2 times)
Breaking Bad (will start again soon)
Boardwalk Empire (on season two right now)
I started watching MadMen but I just couldn't get into that one. Oddly I started watching Flashpoint after watching the first three on my list, and I just couldn't do it anymore. By the 4th show, I was wanting some good story telling, and now just a one episode thing.
I think with the right story it could be done for 26 episodes, but it would have to be the right one with the right people. And I think networks need to get out of their minds that shows need to run 10+ seasons. Let it run 2-4 seasons and come up with something new.

HBO is still a beast unto itself because it doesn't have to rely at all on advertising dollars. You would never in a million years see a Sopranos/Wire/Oz/Band of Brothers/etc. on network TV or cable.
Still, FX/AMC/Showtime and those types of networks are also head and shoulders above 99.9% of what's on network television in recent years.
