So the guy who plays Jax from SOA, Idris Elba and this pretty Asian philly named Rinko Kikuchi are tasked with fighting off giant monsters (known as Kaijus in the film) that are attacking the Earth.

The twist is, Earth's finest minds have cooked up monstrous Iron Giant-esque Robots to fight these said monsters.

The bigger twist? These monsters are not of this world but from a dimensional portal within the ocean floor.


Think infinite Godzillas versus Proto-Voltron on Earth.

They also seem to have Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and the chick who voiced GLaDOS in this one too.

I can see this being next year's dumb fun movie or better.

If this wasn't a Guillermo del Toro flick I would be pretty wary (screenplay is from the guy that wrote Clash of the Titans and pretty much nothing else mehhhhhhhh), but since he is directing I'm still pretty excited. Not going to set myself for another Prometheus set up of monumental expectations and inevitable disappointment.

Kind of funny that they made the GLaDOS voice pretty much identical. And they let Idris Elba be British which is always a plus.

I don't mind that Ellen McLain is doing the robot voice, but I'm not sure I'm ok with it sounding exactly like GLaDOS.

My hope is that it is really predominant in the trailer just for marketing in that she'll be in the actual movie sparingly.
