    The Americans (2013) - FX

New show premiered last night with an hour and a half pilot. Basically it is about a couple living in Suburbia near Washington who are undercover Soviet spies in 1980. I thought it was a pretty solid premiere, especially the use of Phil Collins.

    Anyone else catch this?

She's super sexy in the show, although one of the few problems I have with the show was that even though it's set in 1980, Keri Russell still dresses like it's 2013.

Only made it trough the first 40 or so, but it's definitely got promise. Once I get more engrossed I think this will be one of my regulars, just based on my initial reaction and the positive critical response.

Related, I have Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk" stuck in my head today.

I watched the pilot this morning. I really seemed to enjoy it. Really like the relationship between the husband and wife. How they don't really know each other and are kind of polar opposites. Curious to see where this difference of involvement and loyalty will take the two of them both individuality and as a family.

Intriguing for sure. The guy wants to consider turning against Russia while she is 100% against it. Only watched part of the pilot (the first hour), so I'm wondering how they got involved with the kids (adoption?).

FTW! Great scene with that almost hypnotic beat.

Hmm, Kevin Walker from Brothers & Sisters, I'm definitely intrigued now and will have to find some time to watch this over the weekend.

Pissed I forgot to set this to record tonight. Gonna download the ep and already have it set to record from here on out. I'll check out the pilot later on today, expecting good things! FX is just a gold mine for good shows.

I haven't watched yet. But i read a interview today about her and the show. She talked about how much she loved the clothes she had to wear for that setting.

I really liked it. It's added to the rotation for sure.

Good show. In my rotation for sure. Felt like way too much was given away or revealed for the first episode.

Wasn't as good as the pilot, didn't expect it to be, but they touched on my favorite Soviet department, the Poison Lab. The Umbrella ploy was actually based on a real event:

Agents of the Bulgarian secret police (Darzhavna Sigurnost; Bulgarian: Държавна сигурност, abbreviated ДС), assisted by the KGB, had previously made two failed attempts to kill Markov before a third attempt succeeded. On September 7, 1978 (the 67th birthday of Todor Zhivkov), Markov walked across Waterloo Bridge spanning the River Thames, and waited at a bus stop to take a bus to his job at the BBC. He felt a slight sharp pain, as a bug bite or sting, on the back of his right thigh. He looked behind him and saw a man picking up an umbrella off the ground. The man hurriedly crossed to the other side of the street and got in a taxi which then drove away. The event is recalled as the "Umbrella Murder" with the assassin claimed to be Francesco Gullino, codenamed "Piccadilly".

When he arrived at work at the BBC World Service offices, Markov noticed a small red pimple had formed at the site of the sting he had felt earlier and the pain had not lessened or stopped. He told at least one of his colleagues at the BBC about this incident. That evening he developed a fever and was admitted to a hospital where he died three days later, on September 11, 1978, at the age of 49. The cause of death was poisoning from a ricin-filled pellet.
