Very odd.
I feel I've read three reviews now that said something similar to "it's so bad, that it's good!" How can an album sound bad, yet be good?

I think we all know what caused this disappointment.

Kanye has never really been good. He's a terrible lyricist...rudimentary at best. Its just your token braggadocio bullshit. He ain't never said nothing worth a damn.

However, Kanye is an A+ producer and that fantastic production overshadows his awful ability to rhyme. On any given track, when he's got a guest appearance...lyrically he's overshadowed and outclassed immediately.

This album, its bad. Because not only does Kanye still suck as a lyricist...the production sucks this time around...so, now its compounded.

Kanye is the definition of why mainstream rap sucks these days...the artists are less MC and more vehicles for dance beats. Just vapid and self-serving with the volume turned up to 1000.

            BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Thats a little too harsh. College Dropout was a good album from a production and lyrical standpoint. Not everyone has to be Nas to be a respectable lyricist.

Sorry bruh, I just disagree...I would never call him "good" lyricist...he's just not by any measure.

Take a Kanye track...put that sumbitch in Audacity or your music editor of choice...invert the track and just listen to Kanye rhyme...it ain't good. He ain't never said anything creative, profound, or witty. Controversial, sure. Anything that would deem him to be anything above rudimentary...nah.

You not listening close enough then. College dropout had some of his most creative subject matter. It isnt just the production alone that made it a classic. Again, you dont have to be Nas to be a respectful lyricist. Two Words, Never Let Me Down, Slow Jamz, We Dont Care, Spaceship, Jesus Walks, New Work Out Plan, School Spirit are all very creative (extra emphasis) and witty with a few of those listed being honest and introspective.

Then you got songs like My Way Home, Touch the Sky, Hey Mama, Diamonds are Forever, Roses, Heard Em Say & Bring Me Down on Late Registration. All songs with respectable lyrics but creative and honest more than anything. Problem is after those albums he had nothing else to talk about and started getting away from his roots, he went the superficial route. Even then you still got some of my fav Ye tracks off Graduation, Homecoming and Big Brother was 2 of his best penned songs to date IMO.

Ye will never be confused with Rakim or K-Rino but his earlier albums were decent from a lyrical standpoint and most certainly creative.
