Should I know who this "Mos Def" clown is?

I was enjoying my youtube surfing when I came across a video of some fool getting properly hitchslapped around, at 4:15.

At first I because I felt bad for my boy RZA, but when I realized it was actually Mos Def I got a good laugh at his expense. After that though, I realized I don't even know this guy. I vaguely remember seeing him in a few bad movies and I know he's some sort of rapper but I don't know any of his songs.

Is it just me, or am I better off not knowing?

It really goes to show that even a "socially conscious" rapper is still probably dumber than most people.

One of the illest MC's to ever pick up a mic.

Unfortunately gotten really looney over the years, but doesnt take away from the great musical catalog.

I wouldn't go that far, but he was considered a pretty good lyricist at one point and made some movie appearances. If you consider yourself a hip hop and movie fan I would think that you've at least heard of him.

I first heard of him off Ms. Fat. booty and they cd with talib kweli...black star?

Definitely thought you would have heard of the Black Star album, Houston.

I wouldn't say one of the best, probably just a cut below the greatest. He's got a good flow and he's willing to experiment which is sometimes a detriment, but more often than not he's put out really good music incorporating blues and jazz. How you've never heard of him is beyond me. The Ecstatic was a great album and came out as recently as 2009.

Black Star, Black on Both Sides, The New Danger (criminally underrated album), and The Ecstatic are required listening for hip-hop fans.

Mos Def came to my crib once to record a freestyle......this was like back in 98 or 99.....he knew my boys across the street and had came to visit them and they introduced me to Mos.......He introduced himself as Dante, not Mos Def....I was trippin.....one of the humblest, nicest guys I've ever came in contact with in the music business....not to mention an ill MC

How could you ever mistake Mos for RZA first of all??? And Maher wouldn't let RZA on his show with this Hitchens dude in this scenario to begin with because RZA's IQ trumps both of theirs. Not to mention RZA would stand up and punch that guy in the mouth for disrespecting him as he did Mos in the video.

I was actually thinking about this recently. Wonder who would claim Obama if the draft was today.

Mos Def tripped on his own and fell head first into Christopher Hitchens(one of the last people you'd want to get into an argument with), and then blamed Bill Maher despite the fact that he tried 3 or 4 times to get him to stop and save face.
