Saw this last night and really enjoyed it. Wasn't expecting a whole lot going in but it was a very solid movie.

OK...my thawtz...spoilers abound...
This was like 70% of a great movie. Everything with Cranston and up to the point with the reveal that it was a "Godzilla vs." movie was awesome. Then, the fight scenes...probably the best BIG THINGS FIGHTING scenes ever. Really well shot and very cool. I wanted more, though. They got very cute with going to cut scenes and then using different perspectives to show the lead up to the payoff.
But there was a chunk of about 30 minutes smack dab in the middle of the film that nearly put me down. I never fall asleep in the theatres...but that 30m chunk did a number on me and nearly had me down for the count. It was just straight up boring.
Also, a few too many cliches in there. I know Brody is supposed to be a good dude...I don't need unnecessary kid scenes. I could have done without the human element too...they just get in the way in a film like this. And then the totally cliche "Don't use nukes!"..."But we have to, I'm trying to protect people and its all we got!"..."Oh shit, shouldn't have done that...lets get the nuke out of there!"...gross. The definition of Cinema Sin.
Man, I struggled with this. The good...was great. The bad was coma-inducing. I'd give it like a 7? 6.5? Mild recommendation, if, for nothing, the awesome fight scene(s).
I revisited Cloverfield last night...Cloverfield is better in every way outside of the "cool" factor that was Godzilla doing Godzilla things.Last edited by LiquidLarry2GhostWF; 05-17-2014, 08:54 AM.Comment

A fun film. Would have been better if they cut out a lot of the unimportant scenes, could have had it come in around 100 minutes and it's outstanding.
All the scenes with Godzilla or even hinting about the giant monster are awesome.
It can stand alone as it's own complete story but I fully expect sequels. Only question is, who will Godzilla fight next?

@Empire - gotta go with Godzilla's best foe, King Ghidorah. There are others from the Toho list - Mothra, Rodan, Gigan, Mecha-Godzilla, Angilas, Biollante. Edwards had mentioned doing a 'Destroy All Monsters' type film.
I see folks complaining about Godzilla's screen time. He gpt less screen time in his first film.Comment
