Who do you think paged Martian at dinner!? My guess, is that Martins taking orders from the "Christian Mafia." Aka, the governors cousin.

"The family dinner" was suppose to be a setup for Rust, but he turned the tables. The show made it seem like Martin was just following "the plan," but Rust played it way too cool... Rust is a secret master mind/genius, he got drunk on purpose to do some recon on Martin. Hence, the talk with Martin's wife, when he got the page!

If the two stars weren't so charismatic, I would have handwaved by now. The story is a snoozer. I'll give it another week to pick up. The problem is I don't give a single shit about this girl or who killed her. I'm more interested in the lives of these guys, and i'd like to see that pick up a bit.

I don't care about the girl either at this point because they have focused mostly on the two characters. It may not be straight forward with these characters, but they have revealed quite a bit about them through various methods besides dialogue.

I think this is a valid criticism, but I also think this is by design. They are focusing more on the characterization of the two leads during each episode and the actual particulars of the case don't seem to matter, it's just a placeholder for "insert criminal investigation here" ... I think it's a risky move by the show creator -- the details of the case do not seem essential at all, I find myself tuning out whenever they start even talking about it -- but it definitely seems deliberate.

In my opinion, they are giving us all this in depth character development because one is the killer or linked to the killer some how. I don't know I just get the sense they keep deliberately making us think Rust is odd and could be the killer and then all of a sudden it's going to turn out Martin is somehow connected.
