To be fair, DeNiro pretty much saved Scorsese's life with Raging Bull.

It's not really so much a complaint as an argument against Hill winning an Oscar. I feel like he stepped off the MadTV set and onto the Wolf set. He was good, he was funny, the movie was funny, but to me that wasn't great acting.

Oddly, the best scene in Hustle was DeNiro, who has been mailing it in for years, & the fake sheik at the sit down. That had real tension. Meanwhile, you had Jennifer Lawrence & Richard Harrow doing a parody of his beer commercials in the other room.
Ha! I thought that was one of the worst scenes. I enjoyed the tension, but the fake sheik didn't answer any of hos questions and they still wound up going along with him. It made no sense...

Watched "Her" today. No re-watchability. Explored some interesting territory. Jonze definitely went for it with an ambitious, social commentary driven movie, but I just don't think it was particularly entertaining.

To me, it's not gonna top dat #Wolf for me. I enjoy movies for the escapism aspect, and that was the most fun I've had escaping into a movie this year.

Just out of curiosity, what did you think the film was more focused on, love or technology? I've ran into the situation where people who think its first about technology being incorporated into our lives didn't seem to love it. Not that there's a wrong way to view it or anything.

From the start I think it was trying to be about the two concepts being at odds. I guess it was more about tech though if I had to say what I interpreted the statement as.

Saw DBC last night. Fantastic film. MM was great, at times I forgot that it was actually him because he dropped most of usual antics for this role. Leto was ok, overrated though for the most part.

Definitely one of the best films I've seen this year. Right there with 12YAS as favorites to win best film. Really can't go wrong with either, both are superior to all the others I've seen.

Just watched American Hustle, boy was that a drag. The plot, story, and even the characters were boring. Who even cared what happened at the end?

Yeah. I never felt like I was part of the ride. I was always observing from afar, wondering when I'd have a reason to join in on the fun. The plot never grabbed me and made me root for any one particular character or outcome. When end credits rolled I was just like "fucking finally, I have to pee."

Comparing it to Scorsese, his stuff works(partially) because he starts with a bunch of short energetic scenes one after the other, which explains the "ride" sensation. The first part is basically a movie trailer and things don't get serious until later on.

American Hustle started off with long emotional scenes featuring dissapointed, boring, down and out characters, that's not how it's done...David O. Russell didn't do his homework. Huge disappointment after The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook.

Jennifer Lawrence had SUCH an amazing Mocking Jay outfit on in Catching Fire too!!! I don't want to spoil anything else for you guys, but in Mocking Jay she is totally gonna look soooooo much more awesome and kick so much more ass!
I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not.

12 Years a Slave's screenplay isn't in the same league as Before Midnight's

The Oscars are a woman's Super Bowl ... don't get me wrong, I love movies, but you guys are supposed to watch the Super Bowl, not opine about the Oscars. If Warner2BruceTD comments on what someone wore tonight ... turn in your CM Punk trunks.

IMO, the Oscars are for women. Same as those infomercials by Cindy Crawford. I get their popularity, I really do ... but the second that men get their panties in a knot about anything Oscar-related, they should turn in their man card. Again, don't get me wrong, I absolutely love movies and am ok with the awards handed out ... but the Oscars are simply an in-house awards with actresses wearing expensive jewels handed out by Hollywood jewelers. And these awards, as Amy Adams has pointed out, are handed out by 70-year-old white dudes who have no clue.
