Pretty amazing (and heavy) material to be written & performed by a 17-year old.
Three pretty big hits (Criminal, Sleep to Dream, Shadowboxer), all of which are really amazing pieces of music, but like most great albums it's great because of what lies beneath. "Slow Like Honey", "Sullen Girl", "Never is a Promise", & "Carrion" are really the backbone behind the hits and are not the type of songs you'd expect written by a high school sophomore (she wrote & recorded the "Never is a Promise" demo when she was 16!).
Shadowboxer is one of the great songs of the 90's and to me one of the best single recordings by a female ever. Blows me away that a child created this. Despite her rough experiences (she was raped) I have no clue where she gained her perspective on relationships at such a young age.
I'd put this album borderline top ten all time, I really find it to be amazing work, but I suppose that's a matter of taste. I'd like to hear what some of you think of it from an artistic & creative standpoint even if you don't love the songs like I do. It's only 50 minutes or so if you've never heard it start to finish, that YouTube playlist is the entire album in order.
