I listen to a lot of females as well. As a kid it was all about Janet Jackson and Madonna. Oh...and MC Lyte. I mixed in some Lisa Lisa, Patti LaBelle, and Anita Baker, even Paul Abdul.


Later on I discovered Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, and Aretha Franklin.


From there I moved on to Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, TLC, Lisa Stansfield, Total, Xscape, SWV, Brandy, Monica, Gwen Stefani, Eve, Da Brat, Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, and Lauryn Hill.

Recently it's been Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, India Arie, Joss Stone, Adele, Alicia Keys, Jean Grae, Lorde, and I'll cop to enjoying some Beyonce and Katy Perry.

I don't listen to her outside of the FM stations when I am out in the car we use at work, but I wouldn't immediately turn off the station for her. A friend of mine absolutely loves her music, and he's in his 20's, so I'm not seeing the problem with it.

Hell, Trm mentioned Taylor Swift, and he's been a frequent poster in the metal thread. Part of the thread did mention guilty pleasures, no?

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are not really my favorites but they are talented musicians that can play instruments and write their own music so I would never hate on them....unlike that pre-fabricated boy band crap teenage girls were getting force fed in the 90's.

Ever since W2B posted that thread about Fiona Apple's Tidal I've been playing her music non-stop. I'd consider her my favorite female artist now even though I barely ever listened to her until two months ago. Some of my other favorites are St. Vincent, Jessie Ware, Hannah Reid from London Grammar, Lauren Mayberry from Chvrches, Florence Welsh, Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Alicia Keys, Kelela, etc. Also a fan of Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Stevie Nicks from back in the day.
