'Godfather of House Music' Frankie Knuckles Passes Away at 59

So far the cause of death is unknown, but reports suggest it was complications from Type II diabetes. A true pioneer. His music brings back so many great memories of those nights in the clubs. RIP

I never know what anybody means when they say "The Godfather of..."

Is this a reference to the 1972 film "The Godfather" which is noted as the greatest piece of American cinema? or is it like Godfather as in the influential force in a movement?

      OR BOTH!?

Either way, some dude at work yesterday seemed down and when I was like hey buddy wasss hattenin? he was like man, Frankie Knuckles passed. Ignorant ole me was like "sorry to hear that man, I'll see ya." This gives me context as I had no idea who he was talking about and now I do.

I listened to some of his shit yesterday after seeing this thread...his music sounds like garage techno made with an old school keyboard.

Not to take anything away from the guy, but I always assumed house/techno probably started in Europe somewhere and eventually Americans heard it and mainstreamed it here.
