Mrs. Leaf and I finally got around to watching The Wolf of Wall Street last night...

    ...it fucking sucked.

I sat through the entire thing and was not impressed. Three hours of debauchery that didn't really show me why this movie got so much praise. Definitely some funny parts, but, not enough for me to think it was one of the best films of the year. The only thing I really liked was the soundtrack timeline that they incorporated as they moved through the film.

Best part of the night was when the credits began to roll and Mrs. Leaf looked over at me and said, "So are you going to fuck me like it's the last time?" Obviously in reference to the scene between Jordan and his 2nd wife moments before she told him she wanted a divorce.

Total surprise because I thought she would be too tired. Movie ended around 1am, so I figured it was straight to bed. Good way to rebound off a poor movie renting decision.

Someone enlighten me then. What made that movie so fantastic? What did I miss that all the movie aficionados picked up on. Other than a social commentary on an opinion regarding what some think is a rigged financial system, what made it a top film of 2013?

I will not discuss 2013 films in other threads.

I saw it the other day and would've been perfectly fine never seeing it. Leo was Leo so that was about the only thing the movie had going for it really. I don't think you (or me) were part of the film's target audience.

It's a fun entertaining movie, if you don't like it you just don't like it. Nothing to explain.

I'm just glad a depressing pseudo rape sex scene got things going with you and your wife in the bedroom

Personally can't wait till it comes on TV, gonna be the perfect "tune in to because there's nothing else on" background movie.

I'm ok with it being "just an entertaining" movie. I guess I was expecting more with all the praise it received and award nominations. The Expendables is a "entertaining movie" for me. The acting is subpar, the story short and the action fast-paced. With that being said, I wouldn't praise it as one of the best movies of the year and laud it as filled with fantastic performances.

I thought it was good movie that could have used a lot more time in the editing room to make it really good. The total run time on the movie would have been a lot better in the 120 minute range. We didn't need the in ad nauseam reminders that the main character was a sex and drug addict. I got that after the first 30 minutes of the film.

I act surprised that VSN'rs lack taste and decency.

Look. Wolf of Wall Street isn't the most original, complex, or serious movie out there, but there's no excuses for comparing it to The Expendables.

                              This ain't 1976.
