      Actually he did.

Read Celts post. Steroids were on the banned substance list since 1991

when people who dont know shit about what they are talking about hear that a big name like a-rod tested positive, they immediately think that he broke the rules and is another one on the cheater list. hes not in the same category with those guys at all because to public knowledge he hasnt broken any of the rules about steroids, thus the MLB not suspending him.
Steroids have been on the banned substance list since 1991. Arod tested positive for high levels of testosterone and a steroid known as primobolan. He would of never been on the list of 104 players if it wasnt a banned substance.

The analysis of A-Rod's stats was quite weak. Why start the analysis with his 2003 season? He hit 57 HRs in 2002 and 52 HRs in 2001, for starters. I can only assume that the author used the 2003 season as the starting point because thats when A-Roid said he used steroids...whoa, someone actually believed what A-Roid said about his steroid abuse?

                  I agree.

If he did use them, when did he stop using them? How much did it really affect his career? Let's take a look at his stats since 2003, and look at the differences, since he most likely wasn't using steroids every year.

                  2003- .296 average, 181 hits, 47 home runs, 118 RBI's

                  2004- .286 average, 172 hits, 36 home runs, 106 RBI's

                  2005- .321 average, 194 hits, 48 home runs, 130 RBI's

                  2006- .290 average, 166 hits, 35 home runs, 125 RBI's

                  2007- .314 average, 183 hits, 54 home runs, 156 RBI's

                  2008- .302 average, 154 hits, 35 home runs, 103 RBI's

So looking at his stats, how much was he really affected by steroids? They look pretty similar year-by-year, and if someone was to take a guess of when he took them, they would most likely say 2007. But it seems impossible that he could have taken them in 2007, with all of the testing going on. It seems that every other year, his power numbers tend to go down, but that would say that he's taking steroids every two years, which would make things crazy. So it is plausible to say that if he took the one time, he continued to take them. Or that he stopped after doing it once.
                  Bullshit in bold.

The problem with this write up, and the media at large when it comes to the steroid issue, is people think they can just glance at some stats and make sweeping assumptions on steroid usage.

Also, too many people write on the subject while knowing nothing about the sophistication of doping at this level. "How could he have taken them in '07, with all the testing??" Naive. High priced masking agents have kept highly paid athletes ahead of that curve. Not to mention drugs like HGH that still can not be tested for. Saavy "performance enhanceing athletes" aren't doing 6 week cycles of Winstrol V like bodybuiders were doing in the 80's.

Bottom line, is if you want to be on this stuff in 2009, you can be, and you will never get caught. It's all about how much effort you put into it.

Want to make sweeping generalizations and assumptions on baseballs steroid situation? Assume everyone did it. That would be closer to the truth than picking out guys based on numbers and assuming guys didn't. It was rampant, it was everyone, and it probably still is to a large extent. Get your heads out of the sand.
