Cardinals close to dealing for Matt Holliday

The A's and Cardinals are reportedly close to agreeing to a trade that would send Matt Holliday to St. Louis for top hitting prospect Brett Wallace and two other Minor Leaguers.

Shit, door is closing fast on the Brewers season.

well instead of pasting different news sources, i will attempt to give me .02 on the trade. I personally think the A's are the winners in the deal. They got top hitting prospect Bret Wallace who can take over at third base, a spot that has been sorely vacant ever since Chavez hit the shelf with back injuries. Although I believe trading for Holliday was a mistake in the first place, this trade probably makes up for lost prospects. Is Shane Peterson considered a top prospect?

I think this deal will benefit St.Louis too because i would think Busch is more hitter friendly than whatever the fuck they call Oakland's Stadium now. a Derosa/Pujols/Holliday/Ankiel punch is scary, and they should win the NL Central now.

good call, i cant believe they got this much out of it, as wallace is almost mlb ready

the more i look at it, the happier i am we didnt give up an arm and a leg for him

Plus Holliday is going to see a huge improvement as teams cannot pitch around him or Pujols now. Great move by the Cards. Also great move by the As. They could've held onto Holliday and gotten a decent comp. pick out of it, but now they get a nearly MLB ready stud prospect.

                    Good stuff.

Good deal for the Cards. Gives Pujols good protection with Holliday and Ludwick. And since Ankiel has been horrible this year, Holliday should give a little more power in the lineup.

Also good deal for the A's. Was surprised that they got that much for him.

Absolutely love this deal for the A's. A's get Brett Wallace, who is another great prospect and also Clayton Mortensen who will probably be an average to an above-average pitcher. I doubt the A's were gonna resign Holliday, so all I can say is good job to Billy Beane.

I have mixed feelings about this, I don't really see Holliday being a great player like he was in Colorado, and I really liked Wallace, I guess I will have to wait and see how this plays out.

What do you guys think the chances of resigning Holliday are for the Cardinals?

good, but thats only if you want to resign him, because not a lot of teams are guna pay big money, he may be forced to accept arb

I definitely think we will try to re-sign him.

We have been after him since the beginning of last year, and some say that the move was made to please Pujols, as he was getting a little pissed off about being the one man show.
