if Rickey is busted on the roids, then that points to the fact EVERYONE was doing it. Rickey in no way needed to bulk up..it was a culture back then.

I can't defend Ortiz as much as i want too and looked at every possible way, but i can say that i'm still going to love him lol. He means so much to the city of Boston and to the team.

but he tested positive in '03. Whose to know how long he actually used for. What if he stopped that year? I doubt that he did, i bet he stopped in '06..but no one knows for sure.

Rickey was a pretty decent power hitter though.

And steroids can be used to do a lot of things besides just bulking up or hitting homers. Guys can use them to increase leg strength and speed. Get through injuries they otherwise would not have. We associate steroids or PEDs with guys like Bonds who are these giant lab experiments, but they aren't all that. Some cycles aren't meant for bulk.

The reason why people are holding it against Ortiz is because he came out on the record, by choice, and said that he never took PEDs, when he knew he tested positive in 2003. He blatently lied to everyone. He could have just did the same thing he did today and say no comment but he lied instead.

Look at the players who just admitted to it when they were accused versus those who lied about it

Petitte and Giambi both admitted to it and no one is really hassling them. Bonds, Clemens, and now Ortiz all lied and are being critized for it. They all broke the same rule, but the ones that people keep talking about are the ones that lied about it

Exactly Marms. Giambi is still regarded as a juicer but he's not put in the same light as the Bonds, Sosa, Palmerios of the world because when the hammer came down he admitted it.

Brian Roberts came out right away. Even though his excuse was lame, people almost instantly forgave him.

Nobody should be laughing. It's more or less a sad state of baseball. Every team is guilty and just about every player is guilty because they were so caught up in their stupid "clubhouse faternity" bullshit.

I'm not laughing at the fact that he got caught, I'm laughing at the hypocrisy of RSN bringing syringes to the ballpark when A-Rod showed up, calling him A-Roid, when they knew damn well their team was far from clean.

I know plenty Yankees f'd up, as I've explained here. But the guys you would consider the faces of the dynasty; Jeter, Rivera, Williams, Posada....all clean. Just sayin'

All steroids will make you stronger in every single facet. Faster, stronger, more powerful, better muscle endurance, etc., etc.

The effects of each steroid can differ somewhat, but it really doesn't matter what steroid you take because you are going to become a much better athlete.

HGH and a lot of more modern substances have been banned since 2003.

HGH was legal in the 1990s and earlier 2000s because it was so new, and HGH is what most of the players who are being mentioned took

HGH is completely different from Anabolic Steroids
Again, chemically, HGH is different from AAS (androgenic-anabolic steroids) but the effects are virtually the same. The bottom line is that you become a much better athlete and a physical specimen when you take these drugs.

I could even easily make the argument that long-term HGH use is much more beneficial to an athlete than steroid use.

I've studied these compounds and I have watched friends transform their body's into machines in front of my very own eyes while using these substances.

I have read a report before though that HGH could actually make your physical performance worse but it does help players stay on the field a lot more. But you probably know more on the subject than I do, I am just stating what I have read.

                            No.

Like Tailback U said, HGH has the same effect as some anabolic steroids (this is simplicated, because there are dozens, if not hundreds, of different types of steroids that all do different things).

The advantage, is it's untraceable. Nobody has come up with a reliable test for it.

Much of what you read about steroids is way off base, because the sports media at large is ignorant on the subject. It's complicated subject matter that Joe Teambeatwriter probably dosent have the patience to understand. I read shit all the time that just makes me shake my head. Clueless.

                              ahem, Jeter.

Man-Ram & Papi juicing is no surprise, so much for the "YOU USED STEROIDS" chant towards A-Rod. Huh, millennium Sox fans?. lol

I always liked Manny, but Big Sloppy was nothing more than bum with the Twins.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was saying. The poster before me was saying Rickey didn't have to bulk up. I was just trying to show the disconnect between bulky and steroids. Not every steroid use is going to be a bulky madman like Sosa or Bonds. Obviously yeah it makes you stronger, faster, etc.
