You just traded for a 34 year old 3b who can't stay healthy and has 8 HRs this year. He's had 27 total since 2007.

This makes no sense, unless they really just wanted to unload Encarnacion because he was hitting atrociously.
    Sometimes it's really just simple.

Rolen is better than Encarnacion. He'll be better than him next year, and 2011, too.

Encarnacion can't hit, and he's probably the worst fielding regular 3B in the league. he excels at nothing.

Rolen is hitting .320, and still plays a great 3B. Plus, he brings veteran leadership to a clubhouse of 25 year olds who have never won.

This is a great trade for Cincy. I see no downside.

      Obviously the Reds do..

As W2B said.. not much downside unless those pitching prospects are solid. I know nothing about them.

Rolen is a huge upgrade over EE. He is pretty brutal..

Roenicke throws 98 and has closer potential.

I know nothing about the other prospect.

This was basically Rolen for Roenicke.

I meant from the Reds perspective. Giving up EE is like giving up nothing, because you're getting a guy back who's better at every facet of the game.

EE strikes out a ton, and isnt an .800 OPS guy "at worst" because he's only topped .800 twice in 5 seasons. He's also just as imjury prone as Rolen, and he's a downright atrocious fielder.

Take it from someone who watched him every day. You'll be begging to replace him.
