I'll chime in and say congrats as well. Was a hard fought series that really was pretty even overall. Yanks just got the leg up with some better pitching and more timely hits, which will win 99% of the time.

I'll end with this: Holy shitballs Hideki Matsui. If that was his last game in the United States, what a fucking way to go out. If anyone is Pedro's Daddy, it's Hideki. 6 RBI's! I'm still in disbelief.

It woulda been nice to have a 3rd baseman who could hit last night. Twice we had 2 men on back with 2 outs, and twice he pulls the ball to line out. Feliz is an amazing fielder, but the bottom of our lineup, cept for Chooch was no help.

That was the difference in the series. The Yankees got the big hits with 2 outs and runners on, and we didn't.

I'm looking forward to our series next year in the regular season, and hopefully we can meet up again in next year's World Series. It would definitely be a good one.
Yessir thanks for the congrats Mobb, feels good to finally get another ring....especially after getting shut out of the playoffs last year

and lol @ all the Yankee hate that started popping up in this thread (not you guys Mobb, Seth, Blade, etc).....get some new material haters (Dave)

I tell you what, Phillies are a helluva team, this was a very close six game series....couple plays here or there, and the results could've been different.....I can see the Phillies being here again next year, very strong team.....barring any crazy shifts of power in the NL, I don't see any team strong enough to be able to knock them off....

Out of curosity, question for you Phillie fans.....which team do you think was better, this year's edition or last year's?

The Phillies are a great team and i have so much respect for them, i hope they do make it back because it was great watching my Yankees and the phils play each other, two powerhouses. Not only do i respect the Phils but also appreciate them for always beating the who i work for, there fan base is annoying always bringing up the yanks for no reason but hey they will never make it to the show as long as the Phils are in that division so congrats.

Now im off to celebrate number 27

It's tough. Our starting pitching was as shaky last year as it was this year (with only one ace, and then it's kind of a roll of the dice), and our bullpen was definitely worse. Ibanez was a HUGE upgrade over Burrell, even when he was struggling, and Howard up until the WS was much better. Werth was an improvement as well.

So I guess, looking at it from afar, I'd say last years team played more efficiently and did basically what the Yanks did this year: got the starts they needed from their pitchers, got Lidge to get the closes they needed, and got the timely hits. This year I think they were more talented and when they were on, they were better. But it seemed very up and down at times, especially at the mound.

Last years team was definitely better just because we had deeper starting pitching. The press and retarded fans on the radio will make noise about the BP. But think about our rotation last year:

                  2008
                  The Real Hamels
                  Brett Myers
                  Joe Blanton
                  Jamie Moyer

                  compare that to

                  2009
                  Cliff Lee
                  Cole Hamels (Doppleganger)
                  Pedro Martinez
                  Joe Blanton

Lee and Blanton delivered. Lee on short rest and Blanton, on pure guts. Pedro was good, but he was gased by the time last night rolled around. Talkin about Hamels will just piss me off.

We had decent starters early in the season. Myers was lights out, but he got hurt, and hurt again. Moyer actually got himself together by September, but got hurt too. So we had to pull a starter, Happ and put him in the BP.

If we don't get a 3rd starter for 2010 we are in trouble.

                  2010
                  Lee
                  Hamels
                  Blanton
Resign Myers? Moyer will be back and ready? grab a FA?
Kyle Drabek, Jason Knapp, or Antonio Bastardo

And we need a hitter at 3rd base. Feliz just doesn't have it anymore. Sure he makes the plays in fields, so do 85-90% of the fielders in the league, we need someone who can hit too.

We will also need to rehaul the pinch hitting options off the bench. Dobbs didnt have it this year. Bruntlett is a running option. Stairs' bat speed has gone down.

A lot of work to be done for Ruben Amaro in the winter 2009.

I will forever wonder why Happ, our best regular season pitcher, wasn't part of the rotation. And as for last night, why wasn't he put in in the 3rd when Pedro was up against Matsui again? And further, why was he yanked after he struck out 3 in, I believe, an inning and a third.

                    Blade, not sold on Happ?

Definitely last year's team. Our offense may have been better this year, but our pitching was so much better. Hamels was basically as good as Lee was this year, and the rest of our starters were good as well.

The difference was our bullpen was 100000x's better last year, and I truly believe if we have 08's bullpen on 09's team, we would've won this series. Of course, that wasn't the case and we ended up losing, so that is something Ruben will have to patch up this off season.

Woops forgot about Happ. He could be the 4th starter easily then. But then our BP will be even weaker.

I'd agree, but I think Happ looked shaky in the post season coming out of the pen. I think it'd be hard for someone who performed so well as a SP to ask him to drop back to the pen for the season. He certainly proved himself.

Although...we don't want another Kyle Kendrick on our hands...

I hope Wang can regain his form for us....not sure I want to endure a 3-man rotation in the playoffs again

No way.. Pedro looked shot yesterday. Couldn't even brake mid 80s on his fastball aside from a couple times. In the pregame they were talking about how fresh he was compared to Pettite, from only pitching a part of the season. You could be fresh to death but when theirs no gas left in the tank to start it's not gonna matter.

Beating Pedro for the title was pretty sweet though.

All in all the Phillies are a great team, and to deny that would be dumb. They just couldn't hit against left handed pitchers, which happened to be the case most of the time in the WS. Props to them, I can def see a rematch happening next year.

Father Time finally caught up to Pedro. He simply can't pitch consecutive turns in the rotation anymore, even on normal rest.

He might pull a Clemens with another half-season deal.

                                Who's going to the parade?
