Lackey takes physical for Red Sox

Uhhh...not sure how i feel about this. Lackey is a big game pitcher, and a front of the rotation type guy and I wouldn't mind having him. But he is on the wrong side of 30 and i don't know if we need to commit 5 years and 85 million to another starting pitcher when Clay is coming off a great end to the season.

If this in turn means that we can also get Adrian Gonzalez in a trade, then yeah i'll be all for it.

Decent...I feel he's equal in value to Burnett with higher upside because he's a big game pitcher...but his injuries lately concern me to his shoulder and he's 31 already...

5-years is risky but Boston should get at least two very good to great years out of him. As a #3 pitcher, he's awesome value.

with this, i'm pretty sure this opens the door to the Red Sox acquiring Adrian Gonzalez.

          Bomb.

            Bomb.
Boston has said they would refuse to trade a combination of their top prospects. Signing the 30+ year old changes that?

yes I think so. Talks have "just started up again" with the Pads over Gonzalez, you don't think it's a little funny seeing as we're now signing Lackey?

Adrian Gonzalez and Clay Buchholz are only like a year or two apart age wise anyways, it's not like we're trading for another veteran. Gonzalez can rake when he plays in the cavern that is PetCo park, what do you think he can do in the AL? He's definitely worth it as long as we keep Westmoreland.

I think AGonzo is capable of being one of the best players in the game.

If Boston is willing to give up the prospects, then there probably is no reason why they won't get him.

I think he's already one of the best hitters in the game. Just often over looked because San Diego is out of it come June.

sorry, but no way you get a-gonz, they have no incentive to trade him

how does this singing change the scenario at all?

Hoyer said if the Sox were willing to talk Buchholz they could try it. Not to mention there is speculation the two teams are working towards a deal again. I don't see how you can say there is no chance.

no. this isnt right. they dont just want bucholz, they want AT LEAST Clay Buchholz and either Casey Kelly or Ryan Westmoreland

this would be undoubtedly with more mid-level prospects

i can see how it could make some sense, but theres no way you give up that much for one player

I would give up a Buchholz/Kelly/Lars Anderson/Fuentes package. I know Theo is very cautious with his prospects, but you gotta pull the trigger sometime and this seems like the perfect opportunity.

i think thats what it would take and it would make sense. im with you in the sense that i would do it in your situation

but no way theo or any level headed gm gives up this much possible talent for one player

Casey Kelly=Has never gone a full year as a pitcher. He hasn't gone above Class A. He's a great prospect, but still has a ways to go.

Lars Anderson is useless to us with A Gonzo, that's pretty apparent.

Buchholz is the guy I wouldn't like to see go because he's going to be good, but sometimes you need to make those tough moves. We traded away Hanley and ended up with an Ace and a World Series ring. Sure we're hurting at SS now, but we still contend year in and year out.
