PHILADELPHIA -- Roy Halladay could be getting close to joining the Phillies.

Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reported that a three-way trade has been agreed to involving Philadelphia, the Blue Jays and the Mariners, though he did not specify which players are moving besides Halladay coming to the Phillies.

A source said Monday that Halladay is in Philadelphia, likely to take a physical and talk about a contract extension. The Phillies are trying to sign Halladay to an extension before they complete the trade for the former American League Cy Young Award winner. Halladay would waive his no-trade clause to pitch for the Phillies.

It is unclear who will be part of the deal, but there have been rumors that Cliff Lee could be involved. The Phillies could ship Lee to another team in return for prospects, which they possibly could spin to the Blue Jays to complete the deal.

So, Jays give up Halladay, Phils give up Cliff, and Mariners give up prospects. Jays get Mariners prospects, Mariners get Cliff, Phils get Halladay

I don't see the point in this. The extension talks are just that. The only way this is an upgrade is if halladay signs at a bargain price. And the hope is that halladay will be better? If anything the output will be th same. A bonafide ace either way. I'm nit tryig to downplay the deal but hell, Philly station I listen to is wondering what's the point in trading lee for hallday when the results won't significantly change

          From what I gather...

The Phillies wanted to sign Cliff Lee to a long term deal and he would have none of it.

Roy Halladay wanted to be with the Phils (reports said he would only agree to be dealt there) and may sign for fewer bucks, but will sign an extension.

Thus, they have their ace locked up.

I think the overall thought, Mo, is that the Phils believed they wouldn't be able to extend Lee for the price that they'll be able to extend Halladay. So now they might get Halladay for 5 years instead of Lee for one.

And I think Halladay is better than Lee, personally. Now I'm just curious what prospects are going. That could potentially irritate me, although I'm not a big "never give up your big prospects!!!11" guy.

Nah his agent has gone on record saying lee will not sign at a discount price. Now what's crazy is that I believe his agent hasn't heard of any lee movement and also hetman isn't sure 100% that lee is moving....that would be nuts because that's two sure aces if lee doesn't move. Though I'm sure that will surely hamper their ability to keep victorino, werth and hamels. Damn.

                    Phillies made the right move.

Lee wasn't pitching here without an extension and his demands were outrageous. Rather than keep him for 1 more year and get nothing after 2010, they went out and got a better pitcher who they locked up for the next 5 years.

                    Great move by Amaro.

If lee wasn't/isn't traded and the Phillies have Doc and Lee that is a nasty combo.

                        you already forget about Granderson?

the Yankees are still in the driver seat, these are just deals trying to shorten the lead.

yeah I understand that especially when it's rumored lee wants CC money.

The mariners are giving the bulk of the prospects to the jays IMO. Taylor maybe the lone prospect the phils give up besides maybe another prospect pitcher.

This is what pisses me off about Yankees and their fans. They see another team make a big deal and feel the need to make a deal. You're not content with your WS ring from last season? Greedy fucks...
lol uhh you try to win every year, so u think winning a world series ring gives u a year off then whats the point of competing this year? Yes im very happy we won last year, but that was LAST YEAR and this is a new year. Right now we only have C.C., A.J. and Pettitte as our starting rotation, Hughes and Joba are question marks.

lol, so they win a world series they can't go win another one?

I don't agree with the Yankees having to make a blockbuster move, but to tell someone they shouldn't win a WS because they just did is flat out dumb.

Doc was already having his way in the AL imagine him in the NL not dealing with a DH and he's a workhorse that goes 8-9 sometimes 10 innings. No bullpen needed for the phils when he's on the mound lol. FML.
