No, he's out of it. Last year was the last of it.

        Well...

Soriano getting that much money I can see. He is/was one of the best hitters in the league, and is a threat to be a 40/40 man every year.

I can also see why they paid Barry Zito as much as they did. The guy was a monster for the A's and everyone was expecting him to do way better in the NL for obvious reasons.

You can't really say WTF? At those contracts, but they are very disappointing to say the least.

You can't really complain about this contract when they signed him because he was a former cy young winner coming off a 15-8 3.09 ERA (3rd in CY voting) and pitched a great playoffs leading the Cards to a ring. Yeah, you can look back at it now and say he did get injured so kind of a waste of money but he has made a good comeback and finished 2nd in CY voting last year (2.24 ERA, 21-5).

Yeah the Carpenter contract is complete hindsight, at the time it was a great deal and a deal the Cardinals pretty much had to make.

Is Milton's really that bad though?

                10:$9M
                11:$12M

Yeah, he's way overpaid for it's only for 2 more years and while he is nowhere near worth $9 million and $12 million over the next two years, his value is still not terrible.

Last year, fangraphs estimated his value at about $5 million and his 2006-2007 years he was valued at around $10 million.

It's not entirely out of the realm that he can be worth $5-8 million over the next two years which doesn't make the deal AS ridiculous as some of the longer, ironclad, crappier deals out there.

Of course it's in the conversation though.
