NEW YORK – Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto and the New York Yankees outfielderNick Swisher have been chosen by fans for the final roster spots for Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Anaheim.

Votto earned the 34th and final spot on the National League roster by beating out Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez andAtlanta Braves closer Billy Wagner in a four-day Internet vote. San Diego Padres reliever Heath Bell was a candidate before being named as an injury replacement on the NL squad.

I didn't even vote for Wags because Votto is way more deserving. As good as Wags has been, Votto has been the best 1B in the league by far.

If I meant both leagues, I'd have said "all of baseball". I still separate them league by league.

But other than Miggy Cabrera in the AL, there isn't anyone currently playing better than Votto in either league, at any position. (cough*exceptMartinPrado*cough)
