Oswalt to PHI: Waiting For Oswalt's Approval

Fuck his option year. If he's still got a hard on that, I hope the Phils pass. The guys made $100 mill now and still wants $16 mill more to go to a contender. Screw him if he's still stuck on that, but if he is ready to be flexible, it would be awesome to be on the Phillies.

As a fan, why get wrapped up in his salary issues? Let the accountants worry about that.

This is a great trade, Phillies get the very useful Keppinger, too.

Also I think you have to look at the realistic money too, people always say "It's not your money" but if there is bad money spent it hurts the long term flexibility and long term ability to compete... so it absolutely matters.

Tickets are expensive, and players make a lot of money. That's not changing. I can't get wrapped up in that.

They arent signing Oswalt to a 7 year deal or anything, he just wants what he's owed on the option.

If i'm a Phillies fan, this is a deal that clearly makes my team better and increases my chances of seeing a title. That's all that matters to me, put the best players possible on the field.

Maybe it's just me, but I couldnt tell you what anybody makes on any of my favorite teams.

Halladay-Hamels-Oswalt sounds like a pretty damn good play-off rotation to me...we'll see if it actually happens

LOL.. Cliff Lee was what.. $8M? Good job Phillies. Way to trade a shit load for a lesser pitcher when you had a dominant one at half the price.

Guess a lot of it depends on what team you're a fan of. I see your point in regards to Oswalt though and this case.

White Sox fans tend to get caught up in the money quite a lot because we know we have a set budget and spending too much on a few players really hurts our flexibility and ability to make moves.

I see what you are saying, but this guys got a track record. He will end up have $100 million after this season, why is he so big on the option year, how much difference is tht going to make? Is he Charles Freakin Barkely, that he is spending all that money?

Also every year he has asked to be shipped to a contender, and he put up these ridiculous demands, last couple times he has brought up the option, before that he wanted to go to particular teams. And honestly he only wants to go to St. Louis, he's said that for years.

I am suspect on his attitude, hell I don't care if we passed on him. We will have money at the end of the year to make a run for Lee and he actually still likes Philly.

He has never allowed his attitude to affect his play. He may want to go to a certain city or make sure he and his family (present and future) are secure for decades to come, but even when he is on some BAD Houston teams, he has never called it quits or gave less than 100%. If you have a problem with that, then there is not much that would satisfy you.

I have a problem because he has a problem with Philly, always has. The last 5 years he's been involved in trade rumors, but the one place he always refused is Philly. St. Louis and Atlanta are always on his list, and the only teams on his list. He didn't even want to go to NY.

My point is, how can I believe he is commited to the city for the next 1.5 seasons atleast when he has been so vocal against Philadelphia. He doesn't like the fanbase, big city and the ballpark. Interesting fact, his best 2 parks are Coors and Citizens, yet he still doesn't like Philly. Too many negatives expressed from this guy, to make me buy into him.

If he was a 6 month rental I could deal with his issues, but he will be here atleast 1.5 years, and I don't think its fun to root for a guy who doesn't even enjoy pitchin for a World Champ.

The only reason he is waiting all day to approve is because he still holding out on the Cards to change their minds.
