I don't understand this trade. Am I missing something with Chris Snyder?

I realise the pile of veterans PIT gave up isn't anything special, but I just don't see the point.

Right, especially when Ryan Doumit is still locked up past this year as is Snyder and they both will command a lot of money for a team which is supposed to be strapped for cash. I could see this deal making sense if the team was in the race and needed another catcher off the bench, but this just perplexes me.

Doumit's injured. Kratz is our starting catcher.

But the Pirates are about 50 games out, who cares.

They have to be trading one of these catchers later today, or this makes no sense.
