Jeter's value "can't be overstated" because he "embodies the heart of a champion."

Add Florida football, and you have 3/5 of DDRGuido's MM sig for like 5 years.

But Guido has to suffer thru the pain of the Bills, and the Cleveland Indians, so we must forgive him.

They should just give it to him. Since when do they have a problem overpaying for players? He's their captain and all, and giving him a 6 year deal doesn't mean he's going to play for 6 years or anything. It just pretty much assures that he retires as a Yankee.

Jeter should agree to a three-year deal and if he still wants to play beyond that, re-up for another year or two. But it's absurd for him to demand a 6-year deal at 36.

Plus, they have to figure out what position he's eventually going to move to. 1B isnt an option anymore, because then what do you do with Teixera, considering A-Rod will likely be the DH in a year or two? Jeter almost has to play LF or CF. Can you afford to have a ridiculously high paid corner OF who hits 8 HR's?

I wonder if it has anything to do with Arod having a deal until 2017

edit: the NY Post is plagarizing me

Why couldn't they move Cano to LF and stick Jeter at 2B? Cano's bat can play in a corner OF spot.

If A Rod moves to DH why not put Jeter at third a la Ripken and many others who made the transition when their range, or lack thereof, became a big enough liability?

I think Jeter could probably pull off 3B.

3 years, $30-$35m, with incentives for passing miletsones, similar to ARod ($5m for 3k hits, $5m for 3500, maybe $250k for moving up each spot, and $500k for moving past the 5s and 0s, etc.).

If he keeps up with at least 180 hits/season, it'd put him around 3500 when the contract is up. He's currently 36th all time in hits, and will likely be top 20 when the season's over (Biggio is #20 with 3060, Jeter has 2926). He has a shot at Winfield for #19 (3110).

At the end of three years, he'd have a shot at 3500 and top 5 (Speaker #5 with 3514).

                        Nunez!!

I'm kidding of course...I hope he accepts a three year deal, that's great value for him at this point in his career and it would be their way of rewarding him for past performances

In a smaller scale it would be like what they did for Posada when it was time for him to reup.....Posada's needle was on the way down, but they still gave him the years and the dough

I know Jeter's coming off a poor year, but I don't think he's done yet....he's quite capable of hitting .300 again.....I'll live with the limited range

I think he's like 74 hits away from reaching the 3,000 milestone as well......that will be a huge selling point for his team in the negotiations....it would also be better for both parties that Jeter achieves that in a Yankee uniform

I guess I said all that to say, I'd be shocked to the core if they don't get it done

This thread has a serious lack of Lefty irrational Jeter hate.

So say Jeter wants 4 or 5 years?

Do you give it to him anyway?

Me personally I wouldn't for 5 years, he'd be a 41 year old shortstop......I hope they won't ask for anything crazy like that......a three year contract he'd be 39, I wouldn't do anything beyond that.....if he's still producing at 39 then he's defied the odds for that position

I would do 4 years but not 5, i hope its for 3 and then he retires
