      Fed,

I do like your inclusion of McGriff getting in. I had him selected then took him off.

      What's your opinion behind him?

Congrats. What perks do you get for being poster of the year?

He was the one I really was in between on.

Using the "does his name stand out as a HOF" criteria he's absolutely not in. I didn't initially bold him when I went through the first time.

Then I decided to look back at his numbers and he was REALLY good. Was he dominant, no, but because of his era I think he really got unfairly pushed to the back despite some REALLY good numbers.

            Fred McGriff: .284/.377/.509, 134 OPS+, 50.5 WAR

Among eligible HOF this year his OPS+ is 5th only McGwire, Walker, Bagwell and Edgar.

In my mind, if I'm going to let Raffy in on the merit of his numbers, why wouldn't I put McGriff in when they are very comparable?

500+ less hits? 75+ less HRs?

I get to watch Steve Spagnuolo mouth breathe on the sideline , while Steven Jackson defers to Mike Karney in the running game.

Guys I would vote yes for:

                  Alomar
                  McGwire
                  Palmeiro
                  Smith
                  Blyleven

The jury is still out on these guys:

                  Larkin
                  Walker

McGriff is a slippery slope, because then you have to talk about guys like Boog Powell, Frank Thomas, Carlos Delgado, Derek Lee, etc.

Edit- Frank HOWARD, not Frank THOMAS.

Rate metrics wise, they are similar.

                      McGriff: 134 OPS+, .886 OPS
                      Raffy: 132 OPS+, .885 OPS

That's almost why I don't want to put him in because I really don't think he was an all-time legend, but Dawson and Jim Rice opened the flood gates, so we might as well now.

I did the opposite. Had him bolded then removed him.

Jim Rice is a borderline guy IMO but Dawson is not. Dawson taking as long as he did to get into the HOF was retarded.

We've been down this road so we don't have to do it again, so I'll just say Jim Rice inclusion opened the flood gates.
