Greinke has broken rib (hoops injury)

Greinke, the team’s biggest offseason acquisition, injured his ribs playing basketball about two weeks ago, and is expected to miss at least his first three starts in the regular season.

An MRI on Monday revealed that Greinke suffered a hairline fracture in one rib and a bruise in another when he fell to the ground on his left side after grabbing a rebound.

Greinke had an ice pack wrapped around his ribs after his first spring training start. When reporters asked him what was wrong, he said, “Let’s just say it was something really stupid,” but did not otherwise reveal what had happened.

Super pissed. The good news is that the injury is minor. Someone said that if it was the playoffs Greinke would be pitching.

What I really want to know is if Jonny Gomes sang in the clubhouse after receiving the news.

You're really ready to count the Cubs completely out of it with all the talent they have?

Yes. The Cubs won't be a factor.

                You're right.

But the Reds will dick along for a bit until they get their feet under them and will not run away with anything. Even despite the other big teams in the division missing their aces.

Lol I know. Being a realist I don't expect us to just run woodshed on the division. I know it will be competitive all season. I just have no reason to think we can't repeat though, with all these injuries and we can only get better than last year.

Reds won earlier than expected last year, the team was built for 2012.

Almost every key player (aside from Rolen) is either smack dab in the middle of their prime (Votto, Arroyo, Phillips, etc), or extremely young and likely to get better (Bruce, Stubbs, Cueto, Chapman, Wood, etc). Deep farm system to replace older players and provide trade chips. Should be a very good team for years to come.

With that said, I can see them taking a step back this year, wouldnt surprise me at all. This team is built for a marathon, the future is bright.

The Brewers will probably only need a sixth starter for one game...
