Manny Ramirez has pulled one last surprise in his Major League Baseball career. It's over.

The Tampa Bay Rays outfielder was recently notified about an issue involving the league's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Rather than continue with the process, Ramirez informed the league that is retiring as an active player.

In a statement, Major League Baseball said should Ramirez decide to seek reinstatement, he would be obligated to continue the process.

Thanks Manny, for finding a way to go from my favorite non-Phillie to one of my least favorites in less than 2 years.

Add Manny to the list of players that should never be considered for the Hall of Fame.

Why shouldn't he be in the Hall? We need to get over this shit about steroids or gambling or whatever and just put these guys with the stats in. Throw them in their own wing if you have to and call it the Steroid era or something, but as much as Manny bugs me now he belongs in the fucking Hall of Fame.

Manny Ramirez walked away from baseball on Friday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, abruptly ending the mercurial career of one of the most talented — and tainted — hitters to ever play the game.

The slumping Tampa Bay slugger informed Major League Baseball that he would retire rather than face a 100-game suspension. Ramirez served a 50-game ban for violating the drug policy in 2009, and second-time offenders get double that penalty.

Pitiful way to end his career.

So much for being a first ballot HOFer. Writers will make him wait awhile.

Are we supposed to look back in awe at the 2,574 hits, the 555 homers, the .585 career slugging percentage, the .996 OPS?

Just three players in history have ever assembled those numbers -- that many hits, that many homers, that high an OPS and slugging percentage.

One was Babe Ruth, who might have tested positive for too many cheeseburgers once upon a time but otherwise remains his same old iconic self.

And who were the other two? A couple of dudes named Barry Bonds and Manny Ramirez. How 'bout that?
Should be good times when they are eligible for the Hall.

You could make an argument that he's the best right handed hitter of all time. You probably wouldnt win it, but you wouldnt sound foolish.

He should be a lock HOF'er. But these writers have to make themselves the story, so who knows how they will treat him.

He might not even make the HOF ballot anymore.

Which is ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. I know the steroid era inflated numbers, but if you're going to put asterisks next to Bonds, Manny, McGwire, Clemens, etc.. put asterisks next to Babe Ruth and co for playing in an all white baseball league for years and years.
