Pretty interesting article. Trackman + Pitch f/x could totally change the scouting/player acquisition part of the game. I'm sure some teams are already using this data.

Field f/X is in full force now too. Unfortunately I'm not sure we'll ever be able to get our hands on it.

Kind of funny in regard to it being a technological advancement when you think about it. Like, how they described "hop" and stuff in the article. It's stuff scouts have been seeing/evaluating on forever, but is just now becoming a quantifiable thing. You've always heard "oh that fastball's got life to it". Lot of people tended to write that off as an illusion kind of thing, no?

Not really sure where I'm rambling to, other than, "cool."

Though I may have to cringe if I have to listen to the stat geeks start comparing pitcher's effective velocities and spin rates on a regular basis. :P

I'll revisit this post in the morning when I can post something more coherent though.
