    Baltimore Orioles Thread: Orioles Magic

Currently getting beat right now by the Indians 6-2. The offense, which started so well with Roberts, Markakis and Hardy leading the way, is currently struggling to get things going. Hardy is on the DL.

Pitching started off well too, but Guthrie being bombed today, and Britton got hit hard yesterday.

Its still just three weeks into the season. I'm not getting that worried about the pitching, as we expected some inconsistent performances with the starters (and Matusz is on the DL.) But the offense performing poorly is a huge concern.

I'll also try to update as much as I can. Sometimes it will happen more frequently than others.

The rest of the offense needs to get hot Reynolds, Jones, Lee and Vlad. They are all ice cold right now.

Lee is probably the most disappointing right now, as well as Guerrero. About time to bump Lee down the order until he gets some confidence back.

Bergeson also pitched decent today, except for the two long balls. But avoiding those are still part of the equation for winning.

I never liked the Lee signing. I was a big advocate for LaRoche but hopefully if Lee gets bumped down he'll get the message. I have no idea who is worthy of the 3 spot... Scott?

At this point probably. A good combination could be Guerrero 3rd, then Reynolds fourth, but who knows. Bottom line, someone needs to start hitting.

I'm extremely disappointed that Hardy got hurt. The dude has always had talent, and was off to a great start with us and gave us a great option at the bottom of the lineup. Even without Hardy, anything else beats Andino/Izturis offensively.

5-3 loss to the Twins extends our losing streak to eight games.

Adam Jones hit a homer, but that is about all he did, going 1-4. Guerrero, Lee and Reynolds managed to not get a hit between the three of them.

Looking at our box score after the game, the highest average is Brian Roberts at .266, then Robert Andino at .250. Where the hell did everyone go?

Oh, and good job Kevin Gregg letting two runs in during the ninth.

The O's were down 3-2 when Gregg came in, so it wasn't a save situation, but we scored one run in the bottom of the ninth, so if those two runs dont come in, its an extra innings game.

From my understanding, the club wants to use a closer by committee approach with Uehara, Gregg and Mike Gonzalez, as all three have experience closing. So far, Uehara has pitched the best of all three.

I was willing to give Gregg the benefit of the doubt to start the year, but I see those issues already.

Orioles destroyed the Twins last night 11-0. Arrieta pitched six strong shut out innings, and Jason Berken shut down the Twins in two innings of relief, continuing his strong start.

Some of the bats came alive. Guerrero was 2-5, with a three run homer in the 8th off Joe Nathan. Roberts knocked three in, and Matt Wieters finally did something, going 2-3 with 4 RBI.

In addition, both Derrek Lee and Adam Jones had two hits, and Robert Andino went 3-3

Britton has turned me into a believer, he is legit. Good 1-2-3 for the future in Britton, Matusz, and Arrieta.

I don't understand why Buck keeps going to Gregg and/or Gonzalez. Gonzalez has been garbage since he got here and everything is an adventure with Gregg. Koji closed late last year and was pretty good at it, Johnson is one of the better setup guys in the league so not sure why he doesn't use those two most nights in save situations.

Equally perplexing is how Cesar Izturis continues to find his way into the lineup even though Robert Andino is clearly better.

I also think the lineup should be juggled a bit. Might be time to move Wieters up in the order.

My guess is because they are getting paid the money. Gregg has quickly turned me off, but I was a believer in Gonzalez once he came back from injury. Even though he did not have any saves (if I recall, I just got back from the bar) Gonzalez put up some pretty good numbers in relief during the second half. I am with you though- Koji is pitching the best, and the point of a closer by committee approach is to go with the hot hand.

I love Izturis and his glove, but he is a utility infielder at this point. Andino should be the guy starting at shortstop until Hardy is back, and even though Hardy was performing pretty good at the plate, Andino will give him a run for his money for playing time.

The Sun mentioned moving Wieters up in the order a bit, and brought up a few numbers for how well he hits in the order. I would personally wait on that for a little bit, and see how well the other bats perform. If Reynolds and Lee continue to struggle, then adjust. I also want to see Wieters sustain a hot streak.

I hope we can pull out a home game against the yanks.

Markakis needs to get his dick out of the dirt and start hitting some fucken' balls.
