Lincecum's Take on Playoff Expansion Plans

Lincecum on BudBlog - Yahoo! Sports

Personally I think it's kind of funky, just because the game has been this way for so long. Why mess it up, other than for monetary purposes, and that's probably what (Selig) is looking at. That's like, 'OK, don't worry about us as human beings or players.'

It doesn't seem very fair, and personally I don't know where his head is at. It doesn't seem right to me.

Nobody wants to have to worry, 'Oh (expletive), now I've got another (expletive) team in the (expletive) mix. Now we have to worry about what that takes and what they're going to do.' What if the (second) wild-card team is not deserving of getting in?
Huh? I understand the whole thing about keeping the game up with its history and not wanting to do new things....but, what's the big deal?

If you win your division, you have nothing to worry about.

I know the concern is that the #1 Wild Card team has 92 wins and the #2 Wild Card team has 86 wins or some shit like that, but come on. What's stopping an 88 win wild card team from beating the division winners and getting to the World Series?

I'm in favor of it because a one-game win and your win or even a three game series would add something extra to the post-season.

No way in hell should they do a one game playoff.
The one game playoff would be as follows....

    In Each League:

    #1 - Best Division Winner
#2 - Second Best Division Winner
#3 - Third Best Division Winner

    #4 (Wild Card 1) - Best Non-Division Winner
    #5 (Wild Card 2) - Second Best Non-Division Winner
    ---------------

One Game Playoff Between the two wild cards

Division Series is then 5 games between the remaining Wild Card/#1 & #2/#3 teams, and so forth

Sounds like they're considering One Game or Best of Three for the wild card round...if they amend the system

That one spot would keep 3-5 more teams interested for another month.

        FUCKIN DO IT.

It still keeps your precious old fart supported 4 team a League system, it's just an extra playoff round inbetween the season/playoffs to determine that 4th spot.

Exactly, even the Cardinals made it, so the potential is there regardless. :reptar:

Yeah, even though they had to beat only the Mets to get to the World Series. :reptar:

I still wonder how So Taguchi hit that go-ahead homer against Billy Wagner in Game 2.

Before then, I also wonder how Guillermo Mota gave up TWO RUNS after getting TWO quick OUTS in the Top 7th, tying the game at 6.

Some of the most memorable games in recent memory are the game 163's to decide playoff spots. They should definitely do one game series to decide the wildcard spot.

Fuck the three game series though, it would take way to long. And has various problems with travel.

The best argument for the second WC and the 1 game playoff series is the AL East last season.

The Yankees and Rays were both locks for the playoffs, so neither team really gave a shit if they won the division or not.

Now if both of those teams knew that the team that ended up with a WC was going to have to play a one game do-or-die playoff game, they would have both played hard the entire way to avoid that scenerio.

I'm totally in favor of the 5 team playoff with the one game WC "series". Keeps more teams involved, puts heavy emphasis and gives a clear advantage for winning the divsion, and creates an exciting day of baseball with the two do or die WC playoff games.

Old people can see the reason in this?
