agreed, the only thing that annoys me more than senseless Yankees hate is senseless Yankees love. Jeter should be no where near the ASG.

I'm still waiting for the star player that gets hurt in any all-star game and the owners raise hell over it and the games are cancelled for all sports.....which would be fine with me.

I can't even name the last time I watched an All-Star game for any sport.

I dunno man, I saw Bobby Abreu beast the first half, go on to win the home run derby, and I think he was abducted by aliens following, because, he's been MIA ever since.

Haven't heard a peep from ownership.

The problem is the game at it's core is for the fans, that's why fan voting is in there.

The problem is ALSO people (media and fans alike) that point to All Star Game berths like they mean something... Hall of Fame discussions, top 10, etc. use how many times a guy went to an All Star Game far more than they should. It should be a complete non-factor because as we've seen it's become far more of a popularity contest then actually who the better player is.

I think people udnerstood that it's moer an issue of regression to the mean the Abreu being affected by the ASG.

Point is at least Abreu was still able to play.
Hypothetical, Pujols gets drilled or blows out a knee in the ASG and misses the rest of the season.

            Shit.

            Hits.

            Fan.

Manning blows out knee in Pro Bowl

            Same thing.

It's going to take one major injury to one star player and these things go the way of the dodo.

Agreed, however, still have the All Star voting for all I care and play the game..I won't watch but quit making it decide home field for the World Series.

            Please.

Poor Matt Joyce, this guy really deserves a starting spot. Too bad Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner probably have more votes than him.

Tulo over Reyes? I know he has the HRs and 14 more RBIs, but that's it. NY'ers gotta get their shit together.

Especially for fans of NL teams. Thanks for the help with securing home field advantage, fuckhead Yankees fans. Go ahead and let Jeter start the game. You sure you don't want Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada out there too? Couldn't hurt.

Does voting determine just the starter or the bench too?

                          Managers pick the bench.

What's good about the game is that the starters only play an inning or two, so it really doesn't matter. By the time the game is being decided it comes down to the players that should be out there.

But it is hilarious how single minded the AL voting is so far. It's like these fucks have never watched a random MLB game that didn't involve their team.

Starters used to play the whole game, up until the 70's.

Its funny, when it meant nothing, the managers and players treated it like warfare. Now the game has meaning, and they PH for Pujols with Sean Casey.

Ask Ray Fosse how the whole warfare thing worked out for everybody. And don't you ever besmirch The Mayor, ever again.
