Josh Johnson out until after All Star break

n order to make roster space for Wednesday's starter, the Marlins will transfer ace Josh Johnson from the 15- day disabled list to the 60-day DL.

Johnson has not pitched since May 16 as a result of right shoulder inflammation, and moving him to the 60-day DL means he will not be eligible to be reinstated until after the All-Star break.

In nine starts this season, Johnson pitched to a 3-1 record with a microscopic 1.64 earned run average.

The impending move was made necessary as a result of Elih Villanueva getting called up from Triple-A New Orleans to make a spot start in the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Phillies.

    Villanueva went 4-5 with a 5.23 ERA in 13 starts in Triple-A.
In other moves, infielder Ozzie Martinez was optioned to New Orleans.

Well, I'm disappointed in this development. I don't own Johnson in any fantasy leagues this year, but he was on fire to start the season. Its tough to see that kind of performance ended due to injury.

NAHSTE tried pulling a fast one on me, offering me Josh Johnson + Mike Napoli for Rickie Weeks last night. I looked at it, thought "hmm that's not a bad offer..I'll sleep on it", woke up this morning and saw that JJ got placed on the 60-day DL. ALMOST got me there.

It's still not a bad offer. Napoli is back in 15 days and Johnson is the best pitcher in the NL and still 27.

I think in a keeper league Johnson/Napoli is great value for Weeks but I know you're a trade jew so no hard feelings.

I agree that it's still not a bad offer, but I'm playing to win now. If Johnson came off the DL this week I probably would have accepted the trade this morning.

Also, Josh Johnson is not better than Roy Halladay.

It's strange how Johnson can be the best pitcher in the NL when Roy Halladay is the best pitcher in MLB.

Most of the rate stats say otherwise.

                2010 and 2011:

                ERA+
                Johnson 180, 239
                Halladay 167, 160

                FIP
                Johnson 2.41, 2.58
                Halladay 3.01, 2.11

                ERA

                Johnson 2.30, 1.64
                Halladay 2.44,2.39

                WHIP
                Johnson 1.10, .97
                Halladay 1.04, 1.05

                K/9
                Johnson 8.2, 9.1
                Halladay 7.9, 9.1

                BB/9
                Johnson 2.35, 2.98
                Halladay 1.08, 1.20

For the purposes of our league, i'd rather have Johnson by a smidge, just bsed on more prime years ahead of him.

And I would have taken that trade, too. But I can see why he turned it down, if he's still making a run this year.

How many keepers do you guys get to have? I probably would have taken this one, unless you dont have at least a marginal option to put at second base.

10 for playoff teams, 12 for non playoff teams.

If he's not throwing in the towel, it makes little sense to aquire a guy on the 60 day DL. Weeks is a points machine.

Hmm, I like that setup. I'll have to bring it up for my league.

Still, it would depend on his pitching and if he could have a decent option at second. Weeks is a great option at a top heavy position, and if his pitching isn't bad he doesn't need to make this deal. Lots of ifs and I don't know the answer to them.

They might shut him down for the year...they treat JJ with kid gloves and if they have no shot by August, odds are good they just shut'em down till next year.

Rickie Weeks doesn't even take up my 2B position spot lol..I have Robinson Cano. I also have Jered Weaver, Felix Hernandez and Josh Beckett for my starting pitching so while picking up Johnson would have made my pitching pretty damn good (once he gets off the DL), it wasn't as if I was in dire need of an ace pitcher.

That's why I was trying to get him from you. You have Jorge Posada at catcher and two great 2B ... Sorry for trying to help you fill needs.
