    Marlins manager Rodriguez resigns

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—Florida Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez has resigned with his team on a nine-game losing streak.

Bench coach Brandon Hyde will manage the Marlins against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, but the club will begin a search for an interim manager.

Rodriguez was in his first full season as the Marlins’ manager. He became interim manager June 23 of last year after Fredi Gonzalez was fired. He was given the job permanently five days later, becoming the first Puerto Rican-born manager in major league history. Florida went 46-46 under Rodriguez, who opened the season as the Marlins’ Triple-A manager in New Orleans.

The Marlins fell to 1-17 in June with Saturday’s 7-4 loss to the Rays.

I wonder who they will bring in. After the Morrison thing a few days ago, what manager would want to step in and take this job with this ownership group? I know I wouldn't.

They could possibly just stick with the bench coach for the rest of the year, but Buster Olney said they are talking to Jack McKeon to fill the role as interim manager. http://twitter.com/#!/Buster_ESPN/st...80735054864384

I have a strong feeling that this wasn't Edwin's idea though. I'm betting that ownership gave him the choice of resigning or getting fired.

Oh, no doubt this slimy management team probably gave him that option. The team is 1-17 in June, and just yesterday the rumors were that his job was not in danger. That usually means it is.

Also, Bobby Valentine's name is being floated around for the Marlins yet again.

I don't think anyone wants to work for Jeff Loria. He's a douche. Bobby V could have had the job, but, turned it down after a meeting with Loria and his step-son.

Think he said something off-cuff to the reporters about the hitting coach getting canned.

MIAMI GARDENS — Marlins left fielder Logan Morrison has been told to tone down his comments by president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest after Morrison's reaction last week to the firing of hitting coach John Mallee.

Morrison said he was told he can't "point fingers at the owner, stuff like that," after he said it was not "right" and not "just" that Mallee was dismissed last Wednesday.

"I was like, 'OK,' ' Morrison said about the conversation. "I don't quite fully understand that because I didn't really say it in a negative way. I might have been written that way, I don't know. I was asked a question, I told the truth. But I guess I don't do that anymore."

Owner Jeffrey Loria also spoke to Morrison, but Morrison said Loria is cool.

"He's not really mad," Morrison said.

On the night of Mallee's firing Morrison also hinted the front office was putting pressure on the players. "Everybody has their finger on the panic button. It's hard to relax and play baseball," he said.

Several players were upset over Mallee's firing. The popular coach was in the organization for over 10 years, more than eight of those as the organizational hitting instructor before being promoted to the Marlins when Edwin Rodriguez replaced Fredi Gonzalez as the manager a year ago.

Morrison, 23, is the most outspoken player in the clubhouse. He is popular on Twitter with 35,138 followers and the Marlins already have told him to tone down his tweets after some inappropriate comments.

Well, nothing new regarding Bobby Valentine, so its looking like McKeon is their choice to take over. If he doesn't come back, then Hyde will likely stay in charge until the end of the year.

Earlier today, Edwin Rodriguez voluntarily stepped down as Marlins manager and bench coach Brandon Hyde was tabbed to fill in for today's game against the Rays. Here's the latest on who might take over next..

McKeon is owner Jeffrey Loria's first choice to take over as interim manager, writes Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.

Marlins officials will discuss interim manager candidates internally after today's game against Tampa Bay, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. A source tells Morosi (Twitter link) that both Hyde and Jack McKeon are being considered and a decision is expected in the next 48 hours.

A source told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter) that the Marlins are not considering Nationals' third base coach Bo Porter. The Fish hope to put an interim skipper in place for the rest of season by tomorrow.

Jack McKeon will definitely manage again on an interim basis if asked, tweets Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The octogenarian said that he's capable of doing it, though he'd want to talk it over with his wife first.

Nightengale also tweets that it would be interesting if the Marlins hire someone to fill-in on an interim basis and then make another run at Ozzie Guillen.

                    They can have Fredi back.

Sources: Jack McKeon is expected to be the next manager of the Florida Marlins. At age 80, oldest manager ever, other than Connie Mack. http://twitter.com/#!/Buster_ESPN/st...35880883425280

I'm pretty shocked at that.......I was sure Loria wouldn't allow that. But good for McKeon it is about time Ramirez gets some kind of discipline.
