People are being too hard on the Mets, here.

They purged themselves of this potentially ugly situation. It's not like they could just stop using the guy, because he would file a grievance. They're 8 or 9 games out of the WC, so it was towel throwing time. If they were a little closer, I would be more critical.

Plus, we still don't know the PTBNL's.

      True...

oddly enough, the Rays supposedly came asking about K-Rod, but the Brewers offering was better than the Rays, who have the best minors in baseball.

Aside from the fact that the Mets don't have to worry about the option anymore, the plus is that whoever they may get back could contribute right away and from Sandy's comments, it seems like they can.

They just announced the PTBNL. Adrian Rosario and Daniel Ray Herrera.

HA! Love this trade now. Why didn't the Mets just claim Herrera off waivers earlier this year? Rosario is a 21 year old, who's still in low-A ball. He has struggled with his command and was recently moved into the bullpen.

        What a steal.

I just saw this on MLBTR myself:

Rosario, a 21-year-old right-hander, spent the 2011 season at Class A. He started 14 games and worked out of the bullpen for a 4.32 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 4.0 BB/9.

Herrera, a 26-year-old, left-hander, has a 3.94 ERA with 6.3 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in 93 2/3 innings of work for the Reds and Brewers in his four-year MLB career. He spent most of the 2011 season at Triple-A, where he posted a 2.20 ERA with 7.9 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 in 61 1/3 innings.

I believe if you claim him you have to put him on the 40-man roster...probably at that time they didn't have any spots available to claim Herrera. He has a shot to stick with us only having Byrdak on the team as a lefty...Herrera will be up Friday.

Rosario is an interesting arm...considering the Orioles left Beato open to be picked up via Rule 5, I would say this could be a good move if he can develop. Beato has been solid this year and i think next year he can make his move to become one of the top relievers for the Mets.

The fact the trade was a total salary dump, I'm happy they got anything worthwhile back.

Herrera will be a 28-year old LHP next year so who knows if he can develop into a specialist.

Rosario is all potential. He'll be 23-years old next year and is said to have a good arm. Not a lot of experience though.

Not a total waste since I assumed they'd get back a couple AAA guys with no potential.
