The Mets are just playing hard to get. They have to deal him in order to keep Reyes. Thats the Mets endgame. Trade K-Rod and Beltran for useful pieces. Free up cash to re-sign Reyes and Wright. Hope and pray that Santana can stay healthy.

For the Giants, this may not be what they need. Or, more precisely, Beltran may not be worth as much as they would have to give up. Lance Nix is putting up similar numbers in Washington and would be far cheaper. Hunter Pence in Houston. Heck, they could even try and get Kemp from the Dodgers.

Beltran has nothing to do with Reyes, regardless of whether he is traded or not.

lol @ the Dodgers listening to the Giants about Kemp.

        I said try ...

And Betran's 18 million dollar salary has a lot to do with re-signing Reyes. The Mets are having some serious financial woes right now. Between K-Rod and Beltran's contract, they would free up enough money to keep Reyes provided he gives the Mets a hometown discount.

I highly doubt pence is available. He's one of their lone top pieces so you would have to come high to get him.

From research it looks like met fans would love a belt or wheeler and would be content with OF Brown from the giants. Either of the 3 would be good.

Also slateman, Beltran an Reyes have NOTHING to do with each other. Beltran will be coming off the books whether he is here or not. Getting rid of KROD made it more likely that Reyes would be re-signed although from sandy he said that money would go into future payroll and amateur talent.

Also you gotta figure that while Beltran is still a solid defensive OFer, Pence's range and arm are better at this point in their respective careers.

Beltran is probably the best bat available as of now, but if Pence is available too then yeah he's the more coveted player.

If the Giants offer Wheeler, Belt or Brown, Mets fans should be giddy with excitement ...

Hell yeah, but I can't see the Giants offering one of their elite prospects.

Crasnick says 6-7 teams are 'in on' Beltran with the Red Sox and Giants the top two at this point.

hopefully Belt, Brown, and Wheeler are off limits...beltran isnt so much of an upgrade that it makes a whole lotta sense to deal any of these guys...especially for half a seasons worth of production

He'd be a huge addition. The Giants don't have anybody with more than 8 homeruns even.

We wouldn't really know until the season is over if giving up Belt or another elite prospect for Beltran is worth it. The giants gave a chance to win it all again, this window is very small so when the opportunity is there you do everything you can to close in on it.

It really is amazing how well they've done so far especially without Posey and Freddie Sanchez who was batting over .300 before he got hurt. Pablo was also out for a month.

Vogelsong has been huge and Schierholtz has been one of the hottest batters in July and has brought his avg up to .293 but I don't know if either can post similar numbers in the 2nd half of the season.

The Giants hardly dealt with any injuries last season and won the World Series because on any given night any one of those guys would come through. Huff is slipping, their only consistent bats right now are Schierholtz and Panda and they will go cold at some point.

If they can get Beltran for a prospect then I think they have to if they are willing to do whatever it takes to win it again.
