Probably because he gets to spend 180 million a year, has some terrible contracts on the books and few prospects left.

This. I am really concerned about the lack of prospects, although at least he didn't spend them on one year rentals. They got over a season of Oswalt, and still have Pence under control.

Another thing was that a large portion of this team was put together by Gillick. If Amaro can have sustained success with them, like Epstein with the Sox, then I have no problem considering him one of the best GMs. But right now he's in the middle.

I still think they overpaid, but I'll take back my bust comments.

Crawford has a 0.5 WAR this year in 380 at bats. Worse then Ryan Howard!

Wade and Gillick put this team together. Ruben has added quality players but he isn't the main reason why this team is where it's at.

None of his stats are anywhere near what they should be for the amount of money he is being paid.

He's grounded into more double plays. That's one thing that went up.

Not his fault Boston gave him a boat load of money even though they didn't need him. Theo sucks.

I think one bad season is a little soon to call the 7 year deal a bust. Too much talent for him to do that year in and year out throughout this deal. Just my opinion though.

Not sure how they couldnt see it coming with Crawford.. hes been less then spectacular for quite some time now, they never should've paid him as such.

I heard on PTI the other day that Cashman was only playing his interest in Crawford to drive the price up on Boston, I thought that was awesome.. I hope you guys enjoy the brutal contract for the average player for the next half decade.

I'd rather have this contract and Crawford than the absolutely absurd contract Cashman gave the completely shitty Burnett. As much as we overpaid for Crawford, it's no comparison to the fuck up Cashman made with that contract.

And just b/c that's what Cashman said, doesn't mean that's actually how it was.

If only Cashman could avoid driving up the price of his own free agent signings.

Im sure both teams do it to each other, along with other teams, I just enjoy that kind of gamesmanship.

As far as AJ goes.. the market for pitchers over the last 5 years has been absurd. All kinds of average to well below average pitchers got insane amounts of money. Gil Meche and Jason Marquis come to mind.
