Bill Simmons on baseball: Face meet palm

Sorry for the misleading thread title. This article is actually not about baseball, it's about Bill Simmons' fantasy baseball team. Did you know he plays in a hardcore league for hardcore fans? A league of dorks, if you will?

Well, he does. He's only mentioned it once or twice so it's not a shock that you've never heard of it. Anyway, here is his latest steaming pile of shit (with apologies to the normally great Jonah Keri, who in this case is shitty by association):

In 134 at-bats since they brought him up on July 23, he’s gone .351/.439/.634 with 8 homers, 14 steals and a WAR of WTF

    LOL...

I remember listening to one of his podcasts during spring training where he ran through his team. Full of top 100 prospects, probably took him like 5 years of tanking to get them all though.

Grantland must really be reaching for material. Maybe next week they'll do an article about Bill Simmons' 2003 NCAA dynasty with the Idaho Vandals.

So wait you didn't enjoy their first non-Simmons Grantland podcast about soccer...

I wanted to kill myself for listening to 5 minutes of it

I said it in the thread in the Soap Box or whatever it's called now, but the weirdest thing to me is that there IS a Simmons backlash. I never cared about him enough to hate him or feel that this has been some sort of greivous failure. Just me though I guess.

The other thing about Simmons, is he inspired and infuenced a generation of writers, yet there are a scant few Simmons clones that have actually made it. FOX, SI, etc shockingly never rushed out to hire "the next Simmons".

I still really enjoy Simmons. And Grantland has kept me entertained so far

I enjoyed his "Now I Can Die in Peace" book about the 2004 Red Sox.
