Frank McCourt is offered 1.2 Billion to sell the Dodgers

5:17pm: Major League Baseball is skeptical of the offer, writes Shaikin, as it suspects McCourt may be using the offer …

The all-cash bid comes from Bill Burke, founder of the L.A. Marathon, plus 'state-owned investment institutions of the People's Republic of China' and unidentified American investors, a letter sent to Frank McCourt says. Burke and a spokesman for McCourt have no comment.

He'd be stupid not to take it. It says all related property - I think that has to do with the fact that McCrook split the Dodgers (the MLB team, etc), Dodger Stadium, and the Dodger Stadium parking lot into three separate business entities. So MLB could theoretically seize the team while McCrook charges the team rent and rakes in parking lot fees. Fuckin douchebag - I'm guessing this offer means they want every shred of anything connected to the Dodgers to belong to the buyers and send Frankie off into divorce court away from MLB forever.

NEW YORK (AP)—The New York Mets owners say the deal is off to sell a minority stake in the team to hedge fund manager David Einhorn for $200 million.

The sides were unable to reach an agreement after months of negotiations, the team said in a statement Thursday. The Mets said in May that Einhorn would buy into the club.

Take the money, get on with your life. That would seem to be the obvious choice, but I can see why a stubborn guy would stay around.

Nah, the Dodgers are fucked. The Mets are not going to owe hundreds of millions like they may have thought they would.

They're just a bad luck team.
