This season is exactly why MLB should not expand the playoff field

If we were to let an extra team in, there'd be even less playoff drama every September. Tampa and St. Louis would already be in, and nobody would care about these games.

If the extra wildcard was in now…

-Boston, Tampa and the Angels would all be fighting for 2 spots. Plus, they'd be playing to host the 1 game playoff.

In the NL….Atlanta would pretty much have a spot clinched. Then the Cardinals and Giants would be fighting for the 2nd spot.

This changes year to year, though.

I LOVE the idea of the one game playoff series. Wild card teams have had a free ride for too long. If you don't win a division, I love the idea of being forced into a one and done situation, because it puts a premium on trying to win the division (unlike last year, where the Yankees and Red Sox basically didnt give a fuck about the division because they knew they were both in).

A double header day with two do or die playoff games would be a great sports day and rival the first day of the NCAA tournament in terms of awesomeness.

That is true, still think it should be at least a 3 game series then.
