      1) Overspend for a bat who is hyped as the Yankees savior but struggles to hit .260.
      2) Overspend for a pitcher who ends up being on the DL as much as the active roster.

      There's your off-season.

CC has to opt out so he can get more $$$$$$

Would be funny if he does since the Yanks would almost assuredly have to spend a trillion bucks on two new starters.

CJ Wilson will not be a yankee, he will be like Cliff Lee and want to sign where he feels most comfortable (Texas). But a pitcher I do see them targeting is Mark Buehrle innings eater and will always get you double digit wins.

As for RF no way in hell Swisher is coming back so that leaves either Montero plays some RF or will go after some free agents like Rick Ankiel, Carlos Beltran, David DeJesus, Coco Crisp , Grady Sizemore and Michael Cuddyer. The yanks can make a bid on any of these guys for RF 4th OF or a part time DH.

CJ Wilson does not smoke or drink and I believe he is of the "straight edge" movement. Doesn't strike me as the type who would flock to the big city. And either way, he's not really the "ace" type the Yankees need.

The Yankees will give CC whatever he wants, which will likely be in excess of 4 years.

Nick Swisher won't be back. He is due $10M+ and the buyout will only cost them $1M. He'll be 31 years old next season and they can find similar production for less money.

They will throw too much money at some middling pitcher because there is nothing out there. But it's something they have to do, they have no choice.

Y'know, there is absolutely zero need or fit for David Ortiz on this club.

But if they signed him just to make Red Sox fans cry, I'd be ok with it. :smug2:

"It's great from what I hear," Ortiz said of the Yankees. "It's a good situation to be involved in. Who doesn't want to be involved in a great situation where everything goes the right way?"

Plus they could always rest Martin by letting Montero catch. Never hurts to have three catchers in the roster.

Apparently, Washington DC is the birthplace of the straight edge movement. DC is a pretty "big city"

And the Yankees don't need another ace pitcher. They need a number 2 and/or 3. Which is what CJ is.

And as straight edge as he is, money is money (though Texas did just get a ton more TV money, so they may be using some of it to re-sign him)

I think Posada has already decided to retire. He apparently walked away from the press after the last game in tears.

I don't think CC goes anywhere. He *may* opt out, but I doubt he would unless he had a guarantee of something better.

I heard a rumor that they were going to shop AJ. No idea what they could get for him, but he wasn't bad at all down the stretch. They'd obviously have to pay a lot of his contract if he was moved anywhere.

IMO, a lot of 2012 depends on Hughes. They have a great pen. If Hughes can get back to form, and Nova keeps developing...

As for Swisher, there's really no one else out there. They could decide to through a ton of money at Grady Sizemore, I guess, and put him in right. I can see them buying out Swisher, and give him say $21m for three years.

He will probably get hurt in the first week of the season and be out for 3-4 months.
