The D'Backs announced that they exercised their sides of the mutual options for Henry Blanco and Willie Bloomquist, while declining their team options for Zach Duke and Aaron Hill. Bloomquist declined the mutual option.

The Rays exercised James Shields' $7.5MM option, according to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times. Shields would not have been eligible for free agency if the Rays had declined the option. Instead, Tampa Bay would have gone to arbitration with Shields and he would have obtained a salary in excess of $7.5MM.

The Rays exercised Kyle Farnsworth's 2012 option while declining Kelly Shoppach's, according to the Tampa Tribune. Farnsworth obtains a $3.3MM salary instead of a $650K buyout and Shoppach obtains a $300K buyout instead of a $3.2MM salary.

The Blue Jays announced that they exercised their 2012 option for Edwin Encarnacion and declined their option for Jon Rauch. Encarnacion obtains a $3.5MM salary instead of a $500K buyout and Rauch obtains a $250K buyout instead of a $3.75MM salary.

Only 3 players remain with options.
Rafael Furcal with a $12MM club option with a $1.3MM buyout..
Octavio Dotel with a $3.5MM club option with a $750K buyout.
Rafael Soriano may opt out of remaining two years, $25MM. Scott Boras says Soriano is "highly unlikely" to opt out.

That CC deal is going to be total shit in about 3 years. Until then, enjoy. But also enjoy paying a 36 year old CC Sabathia $26 million in 2016.

What were they supposed to do, let him walk?

Besides, it's the fucking Yankees, it doesn't really matter how bad he is at that point.

Yes and no, they've been able to spend their way out of problems for the most part no doubt but the AJ, A-Rod and CC deals are going to be pretty awful.

Gammons says Reyes could sign by early December while Fielder and Pujols are more likely for later in the month.

Texas is the early favorite for Prince.

David Wright, Andre Ethier and Joey Votto could all become trade candidates depending on circumstances with the respective clubs.

The Braves have told some teams they would be willing to move Jair Jurrjens and Martin Prado in a trade, a Major League source tells MLB.com's Mark Bowman. Atlanta is known to be looking for a power-hitting outfielder and possibly a new shortstop, so either could be acquired in a Jurrjens/Prado trade, or at the very least the Braves could pick up some salary relief --- both Jurrjens and Prado are arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter.

The Braves and Royals have already discussed a Jurrjens trade, and the Braves have an interest in minor league outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Wil Myers, amongst several other prospects in K.C.'s deep farm system. The Royals are known to be targeting veteran starting pitching on the trade market this winter so the two sides would seem like a fit as trading partners. As Bowman notes, Cain could be seen by the Braves as a future center field option if Michael Bourn isn't signed to an extension.

Yeah Prado trade talk has been heating up lately. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get moved. The Uggla deal and Chipper not retiring really screwed his value, he's a plus fielder at 3B and an above avg one at 2B. In the OF his bat just doesn't play well enough since he doesn't draw walks or steal bases. I love Marty Prado but his departure seems inevitable. If the Kansas City deal goes through, that'd be great, but I also expect them to talk to the White Sox about Carlos Quentin.

I'd hope we could fetch an above average power hitting OF for Prado/Jurrjens. I don't see a SS available via trade who would match the value given up. I expect any trades for a bat this winter to be about outfielders, and the SS position will be addressed via a cheap free agency pickup.
