Giants could close a deal tonight

8:45pm: One of the proposals is believed to be Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez for Angel Pagan, tweets Baggarly. That would coincide with the two-for-one rumors we heard earlier about the Mets.

The Giants are "far down the road" on two trade proposals and GM Brian Sabean thinks the team may make a move tonight, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News (on Twitter). The proposed moves don't involve Jed Lowrie, Carlos Quentin, or Martin Prado, three names that have surfaced in recent trade rumors, adds Baggarly.

With rumors swirling that the Mets are also close to making a deal for a reliever, and the Giants said to be entertaining offers for Ramon Ramirez, it's possible the Mets could be on the other end of one of San Francisco's two proposals. That's my own speculation, however.

According to MLBTR, the Mets have added a third reliever, Frank Francisco, to a two year deal. That's four acquired players in a matter of an hour. Looks like the Mets were serious about upgrading their bullpen.

The Cubs are "definitely in" on Pujols still, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. If nothing else, they want to make things hard on the Cards by increasing the bidding, says Sherman.

Mystery team is probably not the Orioles then. But if the Angels are getting involved, that makes a quick resolution less likely. I think the Marlins are going to be out of the bidding and now likely end up with CJ Wilson.

I really like what the Mets have done.

I'm to the point where I almost hope that Pujols signs with another team. A 9 or 10 year contract for a player that is likely 33-35 years old and whose numbers are already starting to decline? No thanks.

Cubs not in on Pujols. Josh Bard signs with Dodgers.

I just can't imagine Pujols in any other uni but a Cardinal one, and I think at the end of the day, St. Louis does whatever they can to get it done.

The offer from Miami sets the number, now its really on St. Louis. It is kind of what most everyone expected if Pujols hit the market. Another team to set the value and then the ball is in St. Louis' court.

Not going to post the entire article, but the title and the gist of it is that Duquette's goal is for the Orioles to be .500 or better this year.

I'm all for setting progressive goals, but unless the team signs Fielder or Pujols, pulls off a trade for Gio Gonzalez and Brian Matusz reverts back to his second-half 2010 form, that just isn't a likely goal at all.

Jim Bowden of ESPN says that Pujols is down to Cardinals and Marlins. Not considering Angels, Cubs, etc if those deals really do exist.

Tigers may make strong push for Gio Gonzalez.

Heyman tweets that a good number of execs think Marlins will win Pujols sweepstakes.
