It is because of the instant gratification from other sports. Baseball and hockey are the two big sports that have a progressive minor league system. In the NBA, some second round picks aren't even a lock to make rosters, and in the NFL, even a "project" first round pick might see the field at times.
I would not call these baseball fans "not fans" but they have a skewed perception of things because they are likely fans of NFL and NBA first.
