What the Angels and Marlins did is what free agency is intended for. You build a team through the draft and player development, and then you supplement that team through a couple free agent signings to get them over the hump to an elite team.

You can agree or disagree with the long-term Albert Pujols deal, or whether or not you think Jose Reyes and Mark Buerhle finish their contracts with the Marlins. But, both teams have that young core that they've built and now they've added to it to make a serious run at the post-season.
