Is Boras slow-playing the Fielder sweepstakes going to cost his client?

It's pretty strange how little interest there is in a bonafide slugger like this.

    - The Rangers were a fit and had the money, but blew it on Darvish
    - The Jays were a fit and had money, but their ownership bought the Maple Leafs so are likely cash strapped

He's running out of suitors at this point, no? Who, other than the Cubs and the Mariners, can even be considered feasible options for Prince right now?

    I don't think it's Boras slow playing.

Honestly I think it's the teams slow playing Fielder.

Theo is waiting for the demanded years to come down. He'll do $20-25 million per year...but not for 10 years. I could see a 5 or 6 year with an option year for a 6th or 7th at best from Theo and the Cubs

I'm hoping he signs with the Nationals, whether or not they have the money, I don't know.

The only way the Jays are involved is if the years come down to 5, which they won't. They won't pay for a 10 year deal with what they've done.

I am thinking the Orioles will spend the money and get him. I have seen the O's and Prince's name linked together a lot recently.

The Orioles have plenty of money, it just comes down to Angelos wanting to spend it. Duquette has made some great under the radar deals, and it shows that he still hasn't lost touch with what is going on in baseball. However, for whatever reason, Angelos isn't letting him go after Fielder, and if I had to guess, it is because he's gotten stung by big acquisitions before, like Albert Belle (hip injury) and Miguel Tejada (malcontent, may have lied about age.)

But Fielder would go a very long way to smoothing things over with the fans who are out for blood now, and he is in danger of losing the small fan base that remains. It is disappointing that we won't spend some money to at least attempt to get better.

Not really scared of Fielder in the AL East, as the Sox have enough pieces to overcome that (plus 1B would be stacked in that division), so the Orioles would be a nice place for Fielder. I'm undecided on the Cubs. I think it'd be a nice landing spot, but is that the best move for a team that wants to "rebuild"?

The Nationals if it turns out the Lerners are not cheap. Which I doubt.

Not sure it's an issue of cheapness. Fielder will get the same money per year in most any deal..the length of deal will be the issue.

I don't blame anyone for not doing 10 years. Not really a cheapness issue. More of an intelligence one.

Yes, well, we're talking about a club that has yet to go over 70 million, won't sign their star player to an extension even though he wants one and traded Jason Marquis for "salary relief"

While I'm excited about the Gio trade, I'm confused as to why we didn't just sign CJ Wilson. Or at least make an offer.

EDIT - Rizzo was just on saying that Laroche is his first baseman. Hopefully, he will hit well enough to trade him at the deadline. We can move Morse to first and call up Harper to play LF :D

I wouldn't have given CJ Wilson that money regardless of what team or market frankly.

Something about CJ Wilson screams "fluke" to me...Not sure why

The Nats might be "cheap" Not sure..but honestly even for teams that have money to spend the 10 year deal Fielder wants is absurd...as was Pujols'. Even if the Nats were up for spending a shit load..I wouldn't give Prince 10years.

See, Prince is only 27. He's more worthy of a 10 year deal than Pujols.

I'd give it to him provided there wasn't a "no trade" clause. At some point, he's going to be a DH

I'd bet heavily that there would be.

After five years he'd be able to block a trade anyways, no? I'm not sure how that rule works.

You just need 10 years in the league and five with one team. I could be wrong but I don't think it triggers until after your fifth year, so it'd be in year six that he'd gain 5-10 rights.
