    "Random" Drug Testing

But the upshot: Bautista spoke at a banquet the other night and noted that in the past two years — the two years which coincided with his tremendous uptick in homers — he has been given sixteen drug tests. In the two years before that he had three total. So I would guess that it’s safe to say that the random drug testing thing has been something less than random in his case.
We've seen it through the years that a lot of the PED abusers were power hitters, but for each one of those, you have someone like F. P. Santangelo who wasn't known for much of anything. My point here is the PED abuser could be any player, so why the uptick in random testing. Obviously it might see a little suspicious that he all of a sudden is a league leading home run hitter, but 16 drug tests in two years compared to three in two years previously? I think 16 is a little overkill, and that three is a little low. There needs to be a nice middle ground where you focus on every player, because it could be anyone taking PEDs.
