Just to clear one thing up, the restaurant was walking distance from his house. Ian Kinsler gave him a ride home, then he walked back for a few more rounds and presumably walked home.

Guy is only hurting himself (and those that care about him) in that situation. Alcoholism is no joke, it's very much a clinical disease.

It's not as if addiction is only present during the act of substance abuse, it's a constant train of thought in his mind, a battle he's always facing.

It's not as simple as just choosing not to go. There's a massive mental war you just cannot understand without experience.
