I don't think Manny has much if anything left in the tank BUT it sucks that all the AL West teams besides the Mariners have made at least one cool move this offseason.
I agree, I think he's done, but why not spend that money on a player that will attract some media attention to the A's. Like Phantom said, low risk, high reward, and it brings them a bit of "star" power.
While I would agree for most teams, $500K for Oakland is too much. They sold off Cahill and Gonzalez, knowing that this year (and probably next year) wouldn't be their year, so why sign an aging Ramirez who will miss a third of the season? Yeah, he catches fire and they trade him, but lets be serious, they won't get anything except for a decent reliever prospect or a fourth outfield type.
With the media circus involved, I would have stayed far, far away. Especially for Oakland, who shouldn't be throwing money around like that, even if it is $500K.
Yet another puzzling move by Billy Beane.........god I love that guy.
Over/under on how many games until Manny has an "issue?"
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"
